Another idea: wake up 2-2:30 hrs earlier, exercise, and just make some minor changes to the diet. Doesn't have to be major like cutting out all sugar, completely switching diets in an extreme way, or by cutting caffeine intake by 25-30 (which lowers the overall daily intake WITHOUT causing mind crushing caffeine headaches, btw), or by just taking a walk after the evening meal instead of binge watching some mindless crap or doom scrolling the last 3+4 hrs of their day, MAYBE, just maybe they'd actually get some quality rest while seeing a measurable difference in their overall physical health and emotional stability and mental toughness.
i like your thoughtful ideas, and have already implemented the "screens off" and limited caffeine protocols...additionally, i listen to Gaither Homecoming radio/Sirius southern Gospel music, while i work on a puzzle...found some nice wood puzzles called Mosaic and they are both interesting and relaxing, reorganizing thoughts before bed...also, some "Sleepytime" herbal tea helps...also taking an herbal supplement at bedtime, from The Wellness Co (Dr Peter McCullough on staff)...also, listening to audiobooks helps when trying to avoid screentime with your eyes...not advertising for anything on this post, just suggestions of what is working for me...
