The curriculum needed for K through 12 education is pretty standard. We could go back to what was taught during the seventies and eighties, add a little modern technology and get incredible results. None of this requires a bloated Federal bureaucracy that does nothing but graft billions of dollars and pump out communist propaganda.
I went to a California State University starting in 1985 and graduated with no debt 4 years later. My first semester including parking but not books was $483.
Why would you leave out the entire 20th Century? The most pivotal century in our history?
However, we will need a rewriting of those events like the formation of the Federal Reserve, World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, 9/11, yada, yada, yada.
AND go back to teaching history of the US Government and how it was formed and then go onto the Formation of States and what the States Responsibilities are and what the Separation of Power REALLY IS and yada, yada, yada, yada!!!!!!!
AND ALSO TEACH THE SEPERATION OF POWERS BETWEEN STATES AND NATIONAL GOVERNMENT!!!!!!
I was fortunate to have a friend in HS who loved history and had a great collection of WWII books he got for BDs and Christmas. He loaned me a couple and I was hooked. I read many of his and almost everything I could find in the library at the time. Libraries used to have great book collections. Not so much anymore.
Several history books I read that were written in the late 1990's were liberal pieces of trash. Funny that they were published after the people who could debunk them had passed away.
We homeschooled for a bit, and some of the books written in the 1800's (mostly personal accounts and current/recent events) told a very different story about life back then. The current level of gas-lighting is beyond comprehension. You can't even find some of those books anymore. Unfortunately, someone borrowed most of them (wife was overly trusting) and they've been sold or lost.
Get rid of DOE, IRS, EPA, and all other agencies that can easily and more effectively be handled by states, or just returned back to the people. We had to pay property tax to fund the govt schools, while also carrying the burden of homeschooling our 4 kids. We didnt get any tax break for our costs, while the govt school still collected money for our kids because we were deemed a "satellite school". Govt ripoff!
We are seeing how far the evil demonrats are willing to go to protect the 3 letter agencies - that alone speaks volumes about why they were established in the first place.
Carter was chosen over Ford to take heat off the JFK assassination and Ford's role on the Warren Commission along with the Vietnam War and Nixon. They threw the country into a deep recession, created the gas crisis and the Iranian revolution. Nobody was talking about Vietnam and JFK after that..
Exactly this. Same here I graduated from HS in 1971 in Fairfax County, VA when it was a very red area. Northern VA at that time wasn't that big bc the Federal Government hadn't expanded as much as it did after I left.
The highschool I went to was huge. Many of the students were only there a couple of years bc there were so many military families in the area. My HS offered many different kinds of classes including AP/Advanced courses in every subject along with many classes for kids who didn't want to go to college (a car maintenance shop, regular shop and secretarial classes such as shorthand and typing)
Our English Dept was well recognized as being excellent. The teachers presented their classes with themes such as Pirates where kids read Herman Melville books, etc. , I even took a course on the bible as a literary work, and a course that went through and dissected all the words of all the Beatles music. I had a class where I read Ayn Rand books, Animal Farm and Brave New World. It made learing and reading those books enjoyable.
It should be called Dept. of Indoctrination. Shut it down. More importantly, any current teachers and any future teachers should be made to take both an American History test and a test in the subject matter they are supposedly knowledgeable in. They need to pass both with 95%+ scores. They also need to sign a loyalty oath to the U.S. and take the same oath of office as public servants. That way, if they stray into pushing any kind of a Marxist, leftist or communist narrative they can be fired immediately and replaced for not protecting and defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic.
And probably due to DOE, SAT scores kept dropping, so they had to re-calibrate it (dumb it down) so the scores seemed to be comparable to prior decades!

Absolutely
Yes! I hope we do that! My education (graduated 83, before the feds really got their tentacles out) was vastly superior to both my kids' education.

Currently, a semester costs $4165.
Yeah, was definitely more affordable then. And you got better value for your money. My professors just taught the subject.
And come up with a "new, innovative" program every two years that throws out everything the students were taught before that.
you mean 1870s and 1880s, right?
Why would you leave out the entire 20th Century? The most pivotal century in our history?

I think we both get each other's points, though
the three r's though
I had the three R's wrapped up before high school. I always thought history and civics were the most important areas of study in the later years.
Just think if 90% of the country knew what we know.

I graduated HS in 1972. No Department of Education!
Thank Jimmy Carter for that abomination -- a payoff to the teachers' unions.
The DOE had/has nothing to do with EDUCATION. It was the beginning of INDOCTRINATION.
Bingo! Give that fren a 🍺 or whatever 🥛
Yes, you were the beginning of indoctrination…. Maybe just add a T there

1978, that's around the time that Sesame Shit started 🤔
It was in Mexico years before it came here
Signed: October 17, 1979. Became operational: May 4, 1980. I can hear the jokes already.
And people used to think Pres Carter was a nice guy but not a great president. I thought he was liberal scum. The DOE proves he was scum.
Good point and very true
He was David Fuckefeller's lap dog. Fuck them both.
I despised Carter, even then.

Department of woke indoctrination. Het rid of it. Kill it like a poisonous asp.
Education has gotten worse under the Department of Education.
It should be called Dept. of Indoctrination. Shut it down. I like that idea.
Federal control over education is government overreach. DOE was put into place to sabotage education of Americans.
The people who got us to the moon were educated in the 1930s and 1940s. Let's go back to THEIR educational curricula.
Not only that, but we can also write in cursive!
Has there ever been ANYTHING that the government has gotten involved with that made it better?
They couldn't even run a brothel. How do you screw that up?
There was no Department of Education when I graduated and we were way smarter.
Go figure.
u/#ummwhat
Agree and, IMO, an education degree should prohibit one from teaching young ones. Let those with knowledge, skills and experience teach.
And probably due to DOE, SAT scores kept dropping, so they had to re-calibrate it (dumb it down) so the scores seemed to be comparable to prior decades!
Just like the value of the dollar. Same playbook.
Correct! I graduated from public high school in 1970! Public education "back in the day" was actually pretty good.
Gotta filter that money to your political friends.
Get rid of "public" (government) schooling too
We were BETTER educated before it came along.
