Britain has a bigger problem though, and that is its laws aren't really determined by politicians. They are both usually drafted and implemented by the civil service. People like to think the politicians are creating the legislation and whatnot, but the reality is darker.
In all honesty, although most believed "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister" were comedy series, they were some of the most in depth docudramas about how British politics actually worked in the 70s and 80s. Such systems of politics are still in place and just as pervasive. It isn't just dodgy politicians Britain needs to cull, but nearly the entire Civil service as well.

I was a UK bobby for a short time. The order was to "Walk there - don't run and exhaust yourself. Let them fight it out. Don't put yourself at risk. Pick up the survivors when they've finished." It made perfect sense. I had no wish to get injured or killed.
But if someone was injured I'm sure that the instruction was to call for medical help when it was safe to do so. That said, I've seen people hurled into panda cars like a sack of potatoes. There's no sympathy for anyone who resists.

Communication is everything in the business world, school, family and community. If a community is no longer able to communicate with one another you do not have a community and the social contract between citizen and State breaks down.
Agree, its just waiting to blow now. My Country, Australia appears on the same path but we are an apathetic bunch these days. Highest taxes in the world, smart ones are getting out.
