Okay so... As much as i hate to do this, it's not an accurate tweet if the subtweet is the context. Hell, it's not even close.
The subtweet did not say politico is closing the politico website. It's the E&E news website and brand that's been shut down, a brand subsidiary that politico bought. That brand is basically about energy and climate change.
Strictly speaking, they are folding the site, which means any work it was doing separate to politico now will be done on the politico site. It is more than likely that some of their staff at least will be kicking about writing articles for politico.
Now yes, E&E is being restructured because the EPA cancelled a 500k subscription, but the coverage will now just be on poltiico's site instead of 5 other climate change related websites, namely:
E&E news
climatewire
greenwire
energywire
E&E news pm
So politico is simply streamlining it's online infrastructure in effect because the usgov isn't paying for 5 other sites under its brand.
I noticed LOOONG ago that conservative sites were choked with ads while liberal sites were clear of them and I suspected they were being funded by someone other than their audience.
I would think people can see clearly that a lot of media is bought and paid for. I mean if ratings are a measure of a program’s running life…I don’t think bottom of the barrel would be so popular. But with an endless supply of cash, anything can stay afloat.
Grok: "Politico's June 2026 move is a strategic reorganization to integrate energy coverage under its core brand with no full shutdown or new layoffs reported, though government agencies canceled millions in Politico Pro subscriptions in early 2025 to reduce perceived wasteful spending."
Why was the U.S. government "subscribing" to anything in the first place? Especially when what they receive is probably free, or very low cost, for anyone else.

Don't hate yourself for being correct, my good sir.
But if @AwakenedOutlaw would have posted that Politico was closings E&E, the energy trade publication he would not get as many clicks.
I hate that X lets people post all the bullsh1t. Some can take a video from years ago and post as though current.
True, but it still $500k of my tax dollars that aren't being wasted on propaganda.
Every little bit helps at this point.
This subscription was discovered by DOGE about a year ago. I’m surprised Politico kept going after that.

Interesting to look at what products the ads are for and what claims they make, as well. Critical thinkers will see patterns.

👏👏👏👏
Misleading headline. Politico is not closing it website, it is closing closing E&E, the energy trade publication it bought in 2020.
I would run it for $450,000 pa, if that helps?
