It is horrible to consign mentally ill and drug addicts to the streets! To beg, to fester, to steal, to create dangerous hygiene.

Oh the liberals claim, they have freedom! to choose the streets! Rather than being forced or even encouraged to get the care they need!
So troubled and ill people are "allowed" the "choice" of living on the streets rather than being cared for??
Institutions existed for a reason. They had farms and other employment activities to engage those people. They did not have to live on the streets in squalor!
The services are not there for the mentally iill. I researched everything having to do with the defunding that happened in the 70 and 80s the biggest lie that is told is that Reagan closed the hospitals and then defunded everything what actually happen was that the money was diverted by state legislators from the hospitals that were closed into counseling for families and to drug rehab centers and then eventually ended by a democrat congress during the Clinton andf bush years
But if we don't let them live on the streets and terrorize everyone how will my 100% govt funded "non Governement Organization" do Homeless Outreach while paying our administrators 300k a year? They have to afford those donos to the Democract Party somehow
Anyone that has experienced a spouse or family member with mental illness knows this is the only cure. Once social services get involved you are locked out of the system and cannot provide any information that may benefit the patient. Itβs a frustrating and sad process to go through. Please open mental institutions to help rehabilitate these people and make them productive members of our society again. Many have just lost their way and need guidance.π
Sadly there are also those that never do find a way back and need continued care instead of turning them out on the streets to survive on their own. That is cruel. I have dealt with people like this and it breaks your heart to see them so helpless and unable to function.
Did the prior system of institutions need improvements? Absolutely. But throwing the baby out with the bath water by dismantling the system to virtue signal only made matters worse. The government's part of this had nothing to do with preserving the rights and dignity of the mentally ill - it was about money.
I remember when they closed those hospitals in Florida in 2000.
The insane spilled out into the streets as homeless....

I was born and raised in the Napa valley. Before we were known as the wine capital of the world we were known as crazy town because of our state mental institution. Granted it had many flaws however it was also a self sufficient community that helped to get people on the right track. Give them a purpose to thrive. Not all will succeed, but will it take care of the massive homelessness.? Itβs certainly worth a try.

Unfortunately, this is far from a "pure/fair environment", so to speak, at times. You've got to choose your battles like any other period in life, many different situations (work, interpersonal relations, social situations). I've always considered myself a guest here so generally let things slide off my shoulders. I've never liked the injustice, steams me when I've seen good people throw in the proverbial towel due to the BS doled out by tptb and other bad players. I've had a few anons contact me on their ways out the door, don't know if they returned under a different username or just walked away. For me, I just watch and learn. I've disengaged a few times over the years -- just read, no comments nor posts. Not a bad default/fallback position to adopt when all is said and done.

I have a heartfelt request, however. Be organized, be ready, to have animal people take in and foster the beloved pets of the street people. The situation of those people and dogs and kitties losing their owners suddenly and being scooped up like trash and disposed of, is nightmare hell on Earth to contemplate. Please make it be a different story. In case you have not heard the horror stories already going 'round. I cry for them.
