Totally agree. They tried year round DST back in 1974 but repealed it b/c of kids going to school in the dark in the winter time. I guess they figure no one is around to remember that? But I do...
DST definitely messes with my sleep. During winter, i go to bed between 9:30 and 10:00PM. In summer I CAN'T go to sleep that early, but I still wake up at 5:00AM.
I do, and many other workers do if they ever want to do things outside around their house - like mowing, gardening, and other maintenance we can't get done during the week. Yes - there are weekends - but it took me 3 weeks to mow because my wife always plans stuff on the weekends.
Where I am, sunset is at ~9 PM DST and sunrise is at ~5 AM DST. Shifting to Standard time would change it to 8 PM and 4 AM. It always becomes difficult as the latitude gets higher. (In wintertime, it flips around, to 4 PM and 8 AM.) Adjusting my clocks by one hour is far less than the season adjusting the daylight by 4 hours.
I've heard the pros and cons, and I still think standard time, which matches the sun more closely, is the way to go. If any company or school doesn't like it, they can easily change their schedules without bothering me.
I've heard people complaining about kids going to school in the dark. That never once happened to me during all the years before NC had DST. It was dark when I got up, but it was light by the time I was waiting for the school bus. And during the summer, there was still plenty of light after my father got home from work. We worked in the garden in the evenings. I'd stay outside and watch the fireflies and watch the bats zipping around catching insects.
IMHO the idea that makes no sense whatsoever is making it permanent standard time, where it's sunrise at 5 or 6 AM, and already night by 5 or 6 PM - that blows
Have you ever thought or even experienced how much of a disruption this changing of time bs is to everyone's body/system? It's terrible... Twice a year - a sudden shock.
Trump said either way - 50% of people are going to cry about it being one way or another.
Personally, I view this as yet another "machine" action that screws with human physiology - and psychology.
They want FULL SPECTRUM DOMINANCE - and controlling time is just one way they lord over everything.
Just pick a time and LEAVE IT.
Many who have never traveled outside the US have a clue what it's like in other places. For instance, Ireland say June 15th - The sun doesn't set until like 10:30-11:00 PM and it rises somewhere around 3:30 AM... and there's plenty of other places like that in the world one way or another.
Humans can adapt to anything - but springing forward and falling back is nothing more than chain yanking.
How about changing it 5 minutes a year over 12 years? It wouldn't work any better than any other alternative but it would bring loads of fun watching how bad the Federal Government gets messed up.
People’s opinion probably depend where they live in reference to the present time lines. Those near the eastern side of the zone have a different experience than those who live closer to the western side.
Maybe states that need it should handle their own time instead of everyone being forced into it. When you get really far north time changes so drastically that it can feel needed to even get an hour in the sun after work. That can be hard when the sun goes down around 4pm even on the current daylight savings time. Without daylight savings time 3pm sunset would be a thing.
Daylight Savings Time is pointless in Alaska. We have nothing but daylight in the summer and almost no daylight in the winter. No matter what you call it. We just adapt.
I've never seen anything like that. Even with standard time back in the 1960s, my father had hours after work and supper to work in the garden. That 4PM stuff only happens in Alaska, and they can just change work schedules and school schedules to allow for that.
I agree it should be left to up to the individual state.
The spring is when daylight savings time begins. I like it because otherwise we would have sunrise at 4am instead of 5am in spring and summer. Fall is when we revert to standard time. Coming from a northern state with an extremely cold winter and you fall back an hour I like it because otherwise our kids are going to school in the dark and coming home in the dark.
Dream on. Far enough north (e.g., Anchorage) and there is no sun in the winter and no darkness in the summer. I've been there both seasons. I've actually taken a summer photograph outdoors in ambient sunlight at midnight. All the sun does is wander about the sky in a huge circle.
I was visiting Anchorage once in springtime and was being driven around by my host. I happened to notice a drive-in theater. "Gee," I said. "Are those popular?"
"Nah," my host said. "They don't do much business."
I was puzzled. "Why not?"
"Well, think about it. When it is dark enough to be useful, it is too damn cold to be out there. And when it is warm enough to be tolerable, it is never dark."
Wrong time of year to do it.
Permanent standard time.
Human time.

I don’t remember the trial of DST in 1974. But, Alaskan kids go to school in the dark much of the winter.
Move school times. Better for kids anyway. Schools screw kids up.
Come to North Dakota you can enjoy 4am sunrises if we don't switch times in the spring. I am probably one of the few that like daylight savings time.
Everybody likes daylight savings time, HunnyB - sunlight till 8 or 9 PM for the win!
I don't. If any company or school doesn't like standard time, they can just change their operating hours. Simple.
The sun is supposed to be overhead in most places near noon. DST changes that and also messes with our sleep.
DST definitely messes with my sleep. During winter, i go to bed between 9:30 and 10:00PM. In summer I CAN'T go to sleep that early, but I still wake up at 5:00AM.
I hate DST. I fought with my kids to go to bed on school nights, its hot af and who needs sunshine til 9 pm?
I do, and many other workers do if they ever want to do things outside around their house - like mowing, gardening, and other maintenance we can't get done during the week. Yes - there are weekends - but it took me 3 weeks to mow because my wife always plans stuff on the weekends.
I get that. Truly do. Lol

Adults?
Human time. Yes. Just like at the Dr office when they ask for race on the form. I always write in Human

I don’t think Trump is going to sign anything into law until the Save Act is passed.
He doesn’t need to sign bills.
After 10 days in his desk, they become law anyway (assuming no VETO).
Still keeps his promise of not “signing” any bills until SAA is passed. 5D
Yep - such as the Housing Act (now a law).
I would hope not. Save Act top priority
Standard time is our natural rhythm
Yes it is. Hate DSL
Never rested, out of sync
Time changes mess with me bad. Hate them
Technically, the correct time would be permanent standard time. That's the time that keeps with the rotation of the Earth.
Please support keeping it “off” permanently. Midnight should be the middle of the night, not 1 AM
IMHO the idea that makes no sense whatsoever is making it permanent standard time, where it's sunrise at 5 or 6 AM, and already night by 5 or 6 PM - that blows
DST doesn't change how much sunlight you get. If a company doesn't like standard time, they can always change their schedules.
That would only be at the equinoxes or in the tropics. Winter has shorter days, and summer has longer days.
WHAT is STUPID is expecting Congress to do anything SANE!!!
Well there's that too
Just pick a lane...or time and stay in it.
Have you ever thought or even experienced how much of a disruption this changing of time bs is to everyone's body/system? It's terrible... Twice a year - a sudden shock.

And yet we fly back and forth across 3 or 4 time zones and call it nothing.
So they will make messing with the clock permanent? It's healthier to have real time. Then leave it alone.
Set it and leave it
They’re setting it on “permanently messed with” mode
I really don't care whether it is daylight savings or standard time. Just "pick one" and STICK WITH IT.
As a mother, I can attest to how that time change affects children - the adjustment is brutal, especially at bedtime.
Fall back 1/2 hour and then keep it. Winter day would be 8 at 5, summer day would be 5 to 8. Give or take a degree in latitude.
How about changing it 5 minutes a year over 12 years? It wouldn't work any better than any other alternative but it would bring loads of fun watching how bad the Federal Government gets messed up.
This looks like a 5D chess move to get states to adopt the permanent standard time in order to get out of daylight standard time adoption.
I hope they do pass it. As u/BetterNameUnfound said: Human Time
I agree, we should be using Human Time.
More sun to enjoy beautiful FREE FL. 🤗

Yep. I live in the far western part of the eastern time zone (in Michigan's Upper Peninsula) and I like the time changes.
There's a different experience in Hawaii where time doesn't change.

I LOVE fall back. HATE spring forward lol
Its unhealthy
Indeed. Screws me up twice a year
Move it 30 minutes to the middle and set it and forget it
Put this down as the 20th time I’ve heard this. See if anything happens this time.
Right there with you but hoping this time sticks
