"His Excellency" by Ellis (about George Washington)
"Anthem" by Ayn Rand
"Economics in one lesson" by Hazlitt and/or "Basic Economics" by Sowell
If you're into murder mysteries, anything by Tony Hillerman- lots of interesting Navajo culture sprinkled throughout, although some people say it isn't very accurate
Or about survival - "Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World" by Armstrong
If the free market was "pure" then every job would pay what it is worth, not what some bureaucrat says a business owner must pay. Everyone would be (and generally are now) able to go find a higher paying job if their current one doesn't pay enough for their liking, and if they can still make money for the company at the higher wage rate.
If the business owner isn't paying enough, they risk losing employees who will go work elsewhere for more, if they can find it.
If a business owner is too "greedy" and charges / price gouges too much, they risk losing customers.
Think of EVERYTHING in terms of supply/demand (not just commodities or products, but labor, money, credit, etc). The individual business owner knows MUCH more about pricing his business than the bureaucrat in DC (or Moscow or Caracas).
I saw the same thing, but with fewer cars, in NE San Antonio on Monday. Also no snow.😁
Hmm. Whwt took Abbott so long?
Does the value of the cart get included in the $900?😆
For every one of those items in the list, remind yourself that someone, somewhere, is getting a huge payoff with all of OUR money being spent by the government".
One of the reasons they are doing this is so the nee Democrat running for office won't have all the history and can say they weren't involved in all the power grabbing and lockdowns etc. They'll be "clean" and can fool the dem sheep voters again.
Right. This wasn't an endorsement.
And the politicians are under enormous pressure to complete the destruction of their countries before the next elections!
They also claim the "interstate commerce" clause as a reason to get their fingers into everything. With that argument they can justify almost anything. We have to get them back to a restricted interpretation of interstate commerce.
You forgot to add "must have occasional -30F temperatures and 8 weeks nonstop below freezing". 😆
Edit to say: but the summers are beautiful "up north"
Right. There is no way to implement it. If you buy a stock and it goes up tomorrow, do you pay tax on the unrealized gain? What if it goes up again, do you pay more the next day? And if it goes down does anyone think they will give tax money back?
Another possibility... at some point they will declare the bottleneck fixed and then we will have to just let all those containers flood into the country because - no time to verify them all! Who knows what is in them!
I've been wondering what the "normal" backlog of ships waiting to be unloaded looks like. And it makes sense that it would be cyclical / seasonal. It would be easy for the msm to say "look at this!" and most people would have no idea what normal is.
I think it's also related to the environment/upbringing that tends to lead people to choose different professions. I was at a conference in Florida last week. Two conventions in the same conference center - mine in the construction services industry, the other was an accounting conference or something. Same mask rules (FL no mandate rules, but convention center says unvaxxed AND vaxxed strongly encouraged), same location (north side vs south side of the convention center), both had about the same number of attendees.
The construction conference was 99% unmasked. The accountants seemed to be about 75% masked.
And still lots of idiots
For those of you too young to remember, look up the character Klinger in the TV show MAS*H.
I've thought a lot about this too. They need him to be a martyr, not impeached or 25thed. Then the media can go back to fawning over him, and who would be so cruel to question his legitimacy, intelligence, etc?
My question is - is RR giving the same index-finger-to-the-cuff that MG is giving to him? In the photo I only see three of RR's fingers below. If so, then the looks they are giving each other mean something completely different. "We are on the same team"
8It isn't. It's just an executive order. I'm sitting on a plane in Vegas right now and they keep saying "muh federal law requires it..." If nobody questions them, is it a law or isn't it? Same effect.
Edit: pilot just came on to say sorry we have to do the mask, it is company policy following the executive order, and hopefully it will be over soon. At least someone is honest about it.
I flew to New Orleans 2 weeks ago, on Delta. They mentioned masks every chance they got (at least 4 times during boarding of each flight). They always mentioned the trouble you would get in if you don't comply (removed from the flight, civil and criminal penalties). And then at the end of each flight they THANKED everyone for "wearing a mask completely covering your nose and mouth"!
I don't do surveys after flights, but this time I told them that it was insulting, and that we aren't doing it because we love them or want their thanks. We're doing it because they are forcing us.
I'm flying Delta again next week and so far I haven't been banned! ?
I've seen that before... was at a conference in DC a couple years ago. Sightseeing at the Jefferson Memorial and 3 Marine helicopters flew overhead toward the white house. Once they started hovering one descended and the other two flew away. I assumed two were decoys.
Most leftists / progressives / pseudo-intelligent types are happy with the idea of science, provided they don't have to do the hard work to actually DO science, or learn about anything "hard". Then they can spout off what some other pseudo-scientist said without knowing anything about it. They don't know how to counter an argument properly because they've never considered that anyone would question what they repeated.

I'm guessing they have it on a "model" that is unrelated or loosely related to the actual number each day. They may go back later and reconcile it to reality but I wouldnt count on it. This way the death count can keep on rolling upward at the pace they want and we will all forget about what happened yesterday.
Are we to assume that those who were in the hospital for other reasons and just "happened" to test positive were asymptomatic? Or were they false positives?
