Agreed. Except that Patriot is not capable of intercepting hypersonic missiles. That would take something more like the THAAD system (but maybe not, since it is designed for high-altitude interception), which is not deployed in Ukraine Or the Navy AEGIS/Standard system (more likely). Huddling under a Patriot "umbrella" would be about as useful as a real umbrella.

I think I am calling into question what "effective" can mean. On this page, we are sometimes singing to the choir. Is that "effective"? Probably not, in the sense of making a difference. We are sometimes at odds with the crazy conspiracy hoaxers and may possibly clear their heads. In some indirect sense (dispelling folly), that may be "effective." At least it will make them less ineffective. But when we reach out to some actual person in our actual selves, we may be informing them or educating them. I think that is the best form of "effective," though it may not be perfect.
I guess I am thinking this environment (anonymous) is like a training gym, but the real contest occurs outside the gym. If we are to the point where people feel fearful of telling the truth, lest there be reprisal---then we are past the point where people should be telling the truth because our lives and freedom depend on it.
As an aside, do you realize that people today seem nervous about their names, addresses, and phone numbers being known and knowable to nearly anyone. They get all squinchy if their address or phone number is mentioned. I find this incredible, inasmuch as I grew up with CITY TELEPHONE BOOKS that consisted of an actual alphabetized list of EVERYONE IN THE CITY WHO HAD A PHONE, complete with street address and phone number. We didn't think anything of it. Nothing bad came of it. If you expressed any anxiety about this, you would be looked at like you were fresh from the looney bin!

This is a futile discussion. The issue has nothing to do with "land." It is a matter of gaining control of all the major communication streams from the land to be isolated. And maybe hunting down and decommissioning any individual radio operators. But go with it. It was only an illustration of the possibility of entirely falsifying an "event." Maybe there would be too much leakage and it would be only partial. We are seeing that with the war in Ukraine.

Because we are out of ammo. Why is that so impossible to accept? What have we done with our defense budgets for half a century, except squander them and use up our assets without replacement? I mean, I was in the defense industry for 40 years, and it was all new starts that fizzled out (SDI), or programs that happened and dragged on through cost overruns (F-35, KC-46). Good programs were terminated before their time (F-22). Plenty of mismanagement to go around.

Personally, I don't think, after all this trouble and the public pressure to arrive at a definite end, that Putin will tolerate any chance that a rump Ukraine would be NATO-ized. I think that future is over with. It will be something else. Maybe a puppet state west of the Dneiper. Maybe make non-Donbass East Ukraine a new province of Belarus. The West is now getting adjusted to the idea that they have lost...but they don't understand what that really means yet.

Even though there is no way now of establishing that any of these things were either in Trump's possession or inserted by the FBI. 30 years ago, I was on hand to watch how the FBI executed an arrest warrant on David Koresh in Waco, Texas. It ended with the immolation of 86 men, women, and children in a massacre on television. The FBI fully asserted their righteousness after the fact. AG Janet Reno was the epitome of cold defiant contempt toward Congress in her testimony. They bulldozed the rubble to destroy the crime scene.
If you want to take as your ground rule that the FBI and DoJ have spotless integrity and are above putting their thumbs on the scales...well, we don't live in the same world. Do people permanently tattoo or do they simply maintain applied patterns? I know that is done, all the time. With bad and grainy photos, who can say either way? And if there is doubt, could these be older pictures that have been repurposed?

People on this page are quite willing to believe in the absurdity of "Blue Beam," the faking of an alien landing. Erasing a nation by faking an earthquake seems to be as easy a task.

Patriot was not designed to engage such targets. It might make a valiant effort, but it is outclassed. The closing velocity is too great for the system to respond. (It had a poor record against Scuds in Gulf War 2.) This may be less challenging for a PAC-3 missile variant, but I don't know if those had been provided to Ukraine.
