Does it instantly destroy covid? Are we all constantly in sun 24/7?
I think he means deteriorates
Now fully operational across the globe!
Aaaaaaand it's back.
Well, facebook has many servers throughout the east coast. Obviously the ones you are connecting to are back online and the ones I am connected to weren't.
Anyways they are now back online where I am as of this minute, they are propagating back throughout the US now it seems!
Still down in east-coast USA.
Edit: Now online here!
True and oculus lol — any fb sister app really
Facebook has a BGP configuration error. This caused the DNS records to get wiped among many other things. Updating these records takes many hours to propagate. It will all be back online later today
Because the DNS records are wiped, no one can connect to facebook's servers when they navigate to 'facebook.com'. That's it. Facebook is not 'deleted'. Facebook has literally millions of servers around the planet and constantly backs up everything.
The photo in the tweet above is literally a screenshot of routing tables, it has nothing to do with the contents of facebook's servers, the person who tweeted it has no clue what they are talking about. Facebook's servers are fine, we just can't connect to them, everyone's content is still there. Deleting facebook's content would literally probably take weeks, there's that much data, it is not something that could be done in a second, and even if someone did succeed in deleting it, they have hundreds of backups around the globe.
I am being downvoted not because I am wrong but because people want a doomsday scenario.
This is not true. If you share this you will be ridiculed.
What besides facebook and instagram is down? I can still access reddit, tiktok, snapchat, ...
I mean so is Reddit, Tiktok, Myspace, Gab, Parler, Snapchat, ..
Infact only Facebook and Instagram (same company) are down...
Do you use chromium by any chance? This could be a cached 404 pages.
Brave browsers will automatically display them for example. But run in shell $dig facebook.com and you'll still see zero connection is actually being made.
I mean technically its not a coincidence because it's all caused by the one issue.
Facebook's routing directions are deleted; well, now they would go offline, the servers may be online; also employees would be locked out of the building because the building's security system runs through Facebook's servers.
This is like your TV cable getting cut and then saying "The TV cable is cut PLUS I can't connect to any TV stations PLUS the cable company cars are now showing up outside my house = not a coincide". Of course the former causes all of the later.
This is not at all what routing directions being deleted would mean.
Routing directions have nothing to do with the actual contents of facebook's servers.
To use a laymen analogy, the yellow pages remove your friend Jimmy's phone number from the phone book, now no one can call him. You already couldn't call him anyways because your parents don't let you use the phone. Now the yellow pages have been updated and have Jimmy's number again, you get one of the first copies, you can now see Jimmy's number, you still can't call him because you live in a strict Chinese household that doesn't let you freely use the phone, but his number is once again in the phone book and you at least can verify that.
Yes saving this post offline would be a good move so that one could perform these actions after the fact.
Come on, I'm not "shitting on fellow patriots".
Facebook's routing directions have nothing to do with their entire platform's server infrastructure.
I'm a programmer by trade, Facebook has servers around the globe with infinite back ups. You can't take them down by deleting some routing info. Adjusting DNS wouldn't even affect Facebook's core at all, it would just make people unable to connect until those records get resolved.
I just meant the DNS records are now configured correctly there, China's firewall will still prevent anyone from connecting to facebook's server's IP address.
