Speaking as a former band director:
- your son shows a high level of talent for his age. Encourage that. Could be he's found his niche. The band director is probably overworked, underpaid, and cynical, and just doesn't recognize what is happening at the moment.
- the hs band world is full of try-hards, drama queens, and attention whores, of the student, parent, and teacher varieties. The overworked/underpaid/cynical band director might be up to their eyeballs in this behavior at this time of year, and depending on the type of band program and school system it is, doesn't really have a summer break to look forward to. Few band directors do. I remember taking a second job in the summers to cover bills.
I would encourage your son to continue to distinguish himself, enjoy everything the experience has to offer (which he will see correctly with your help), and not get bruised over it (goes for you as well). HS band is a stepping stone to a potential future and there are many paths to choose later on.
The hull is constructed using double walls below the waterline. There are also new underwater drone systems that could possibly serve in an anti-torpedo/mine role. American steel is far superior to any other nation's. Don't know of any other nation besides Russia that has any real submarine force at all.
It'll be a good show!
