Ukraine is squarely in Russia's sphere of influence and Russia wants this fact to be respected. They've been literally asking to for this since at least 2002. That is literally how long this conflict has been building
And after 20 years of waiting and building strength, they are no longer asking, but telling the world how it will be: Ukraine will not be used as leverage and security risk against Russia. Ukraine is not free to decide whatever it wants under western patronage.

There's also the fact that Ukraine is the most corrupt, unstable and generally fucked of all post-soviet states except the Balkans. The cobbled-together non-nation is already fighting a stalled civil war and cannot exist for much longer.

And considering how many billions the US spent on (the brilliant) regime change right under Russia's nose without getting a return, no one is letting Russia, Poland and Hungary divide the spoils for free. I would argue that inertia is the conservative ideal being that it is always against change. And the more rapid the change, the greater the inertia.

No, the problem is that you need a motive force in the other direction, one stronger than wokeist socialism, and it doesn't really exist because all the values that lead to more order, liberty and prosperity are all seen as outdated, morally bankrupt and totally unprogressive, even by people who hate Wokeism.
And this is what we have to change. We need to articulate the case for traditional values. Show that, in fact, they are not only progress, they are the only possible way to progress society in the true sense of the word "progress".
