My husband got a really fantastic job in southern FL. I'm so happy for him and our family! I'm sad to be so far from our families who are both here in the north, but we had to get out. Our town is about to defund our very much needed police (carjackings and hit and runs all the time in my neighborhood) and our village council is going to be 100% progressives after this April. Everyone here wears masks everywhere, even outdoors and in their cars by themselves, it's maddening how stupid people are. Can you believe they even tax you 8% to leave??? So glad we are getting the corporate relo benefits!!!

Fellow Illinoian. So many people leaving my husband and I have our escape planned. Didn’t know about the 8% tax. Eight percent of what? Annual income?
Most towns have what is called a transfer tax. They were outlawed years ago, but each town that already had them was able to keep them. Some are as high as 10%!
It's calculated as 8 **dollars charged for every 1,000 of sale price for the sale of your home.
I believe all taxes are theft and this one is no different, but that isn't an 8% tax. 8% would be $80 per every $1,000 of sale price.
Yeah, I realized that after I posted it.
I've heard the same tax exists in another Blue shithole - New Jersey
The tax office needs to be burned down.
Welcome to FL fren! Leave your mask (and liberal voting record if you have one) back where you came from and enjoy the rays of freedom! Your family will soon follow.
Don't think I'd be on this site if I had a liberal voting record. Haven't voted liberal since.......ever?!? First time voting would have been Clinton/Dole but not sure I actually voted? Definitely voted in 2000.
I figured that was the case. Once you become a local FL peep you’ll be saying the same thing about new comers from up north, they can’t figure out why their state sucks so bad, but keep voting straight blue down ticket every election.
Back when I lived in Orlando for a year and a half, I used to get offended by the "We don't care how you did it up North" t-shirts, mugs, etc. Now I fully understand and am totally on board.
Dominion
But even though there is not a mask mandate in Florida, aren't most businesses still requiring them?
A friend of a friend moved to Florida recently, about 30 miles north of Miami and said all the stores and gas stations and everything's still require them. ?
Yeah and I bust in without a mask all the time. Just say no thanks when ask if you want one and walk by
Even if they have a sign that says mask required, I don’t put one on. They may ask you to leave but just go right over to the competition. Office Depot said oh I’m sorry we require mask and I said oh yeah I forgot well I’ll head over to Staples. Because they are love Americans and out money.
Hopefully You two can Cancel out 2 Demmie votes from Transplants from NY ;)
God Speed Patriot! We are also living in IL and are seeking to escape! We are torn between TX and FL and trying to figure out income issues. Husband has a small sales business here where he brokers printing and tags. Covid has changed his in person visits so he may not need to be in IL after all and has many customers all over the US. Praying for discernment. It’s been a lifetime here and 29 years in same house.
Start purging now. It's so much work. Do a little each weekend. Good luck!
Florida is awesome just make sure you pick a great neighborhood (like anyplace). I made the move from north to south 2 decades ago. The cold/gray/taxes never bothered me, but honestly it has felt like freaking PARADISE ever since the move. 90 percent awesome sunny days. Just remember FL has no basement, so get enough storage in your house. (We have an oversized garage because of it) There is no FL state income tax, and property taxes are very reasonable compared to norther Dem states. Good luck!
Best recommendations? Florida is a big state with distinct cultures North vs South, Atlantic vs Gulf side ... am seriously in the market but only have vacation experiences.
Florida is Southern all over the State, you just have to get out of the cities to realize it. I’m a 4th generation Floridian and we have Southern accents...most Floridians do if you’ve been here a long while...We prefer to go to the Gulf beaches instead of the Atlantic...the white sands and its a lot calmer than the Atlantic...Also a true Floridian doesn’t complain when the weather gets cold for a few weeks...the ones who complain are the people who move down from up North and complain that they have to put on a light jacket for a week..it’s comical...we love the dip in temps gives us a reason to open the windows...
I was wondering how much of my wardrobe to toss. I will probably wear light long sleeves in the AC at work. But I noted almost 100% short sleeves in all the closets in the pictures on real estate web sites. Will I want ANY pants or long sleeves? Keep a light jacket for those cold dips you mention? How much of the time is the AC on?
I was thinking of keeping a box of winter essentials for traveling to see family.
When I lived in South Florida for 6 years due to my job (Wellington, FL) I had a few jeans and a light jacket but mostly just shorts and flip flops...A/C runs pretty much all year round except a few weeks...We were swimming in the pool in December...I’m originally from Central Florida...
I say hang onto to your winter clothing. I spent a month down in Miami Jan. 2003. For about a week, the temps dropped into the 50's. Being from the North it didn't bother me but people were freaked out. Buildings weren't built to handle the "cold." You really could feel the difference because everything was outdoor oriented.
Also, your blood will thin out and after a year, even 50's and 60's will feel chilly during the winter time.
Thanks. I’ve been trying to get a straight answer. And this sounds right.
You're welcome. Better to be safe than sorry.
Indeed, been looking at real estate and made that note immediately.
Thank you!
From Jersey, living in West Hollywood CA and most likely moving to Palm Beach County soon which is where my parents live now. Car jacking at gunpoint right in front of my place yesterday in broad daylight and had to step over a homeless guy sleeping in my lobby this morning. I'm done. Leftism is cancer.
oh and I'm the ONLY person who walks around outside without a fucking face muzzle, sheep ass LA people
When u get clear plz get the word out to " Send help ". This is a 75% Red State. The dick state chicago arm has us held hostage.
2020 Proved we have stolen elections like I said for 2 decades. So never again does anyone get to say " Fuck Illinoisans - They get what they vote for ".
Based Governor. No state income tax. Homestead exemptions for property tax (= lower property tax). No dumbass mask mandates. Everybody who wants to work is working. No shuttered businesses. 150+ different kinds of license plates. Mmj. Theres alot more but this is a start. Welcome.
Come fishing with me on the gulf coast!
We are on the Atlantic side!
Taxed to leave ??? Now that’s some level 5 globalist crap right there
God bless you! We always used to say, “Just don’t bring your stinkin’ thinkin’ here! But GA now has a stink emanating from Atlanta, so I have to keep my mouth shut.
The 8% transfer tax should be taken to court and thrown out. I lived in Orlando back in the mid-90's and Florida had a "Impact Fee of $200." This was a fee charged to everyone who moved and transferred their cars. It was taken to court and eventually thrown out.
Worth a shot. It was ruled unconstitutional.
Transfer tax is 100% illegal and cannot be enforced. Plus you will get all of that back very soon. Just wait and see what happens....
Well it happens here all the time, legal or not.
They actually outlawed it recognizing that it is wrong, but grandfathered it so that existing communities that had the tax could keep it. That is one reason why we didn't just move ourselves, we got a relocation package that will pay for it, and our entire move for us! It's like winning the little lotto!!!
Thanks!
Welcome to Florida! I’m in Palm Beach...right by the fabulous Winter White House ? ??❤️
Well well well fren, you are livin large then!
So many asshats moving from blue states down here who continue to vote blue. Welcome to Florida. Please keep our state red. ??
Good for you! Imagine how nice it will be to have a governor that actually promotes your freedom instead of stifling it! Many blessings for a major but wonderful move for your family!
Congrats! I moved my family from Illinois to Florida in late 2019. We love it!
TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!
Sobs
Welcome to FL, I'll never move away from FL
I’ve been wanting to move back tough getting a job from 1200 miles away lol
I am still here :(
Thinking about leaving though.
You may want to consider Texas. We have more good paying jobs available than nearly any other state. ZERO State and Local income taxes.
That's on my list!
Congratulations to you and your family. I'm sure you will love you new found freedom. To your family still up north, I'm sure they will want to come and visit.
where in IL is this tax? did you live in the city?
https://www.cmetro.ctic.com/Uploads/0/FCKUpload/files/Transfer_Tax_List.pdf
Just learned there is another $1/1000 charged by the state and 50 cents/1000 by the county for 9.5/1000!!! SMDH. So glad I'm not paying it!
brutal. good to see my county and village are not listed.
Well God Bless you all! How great for you!
I thought Commiefornia was the first to try and pass an exit tax.
Something I will definitely have to watch out for when I finally move to America and pick a state...
Anyways, congrats on leaving that shithole!
God bless.
You and 100 other people I just met ... great. Goodbye affordable real estate
Yeah the real estate prices there are a bit crazy.
Congrats! Wishing you a safe and quick relocation.
I want to go! Swing by NY and grab me!!!
When you sell property, you have to get a transfer stamp. The tax is part of the transfer stamp. The title company applies it. My bad, it's not 8%, its $8/1000 of property value.
Congrats. I'm looking to get my family and I out of Commiefornia.
Bravo!!!
