Been a member of forums since the late 90s and this happens all the time (or did back then). He had valid points. I think there may have been valid counter points tho. I think we and he should be able to agree to disagree. I didn't agree with his assessment, but that didn't mean I thought he was a poor mod. He felt deeply that his conclusion was correct (moreso than mine, I'll admit).

Maybe a better idea would have been to add a disclaimer to any George links (which could easily be done with CSS) that it's believed to be a larp by some... but, there's a LOT of larp-level material here that gets posted (links to sketchy news sites, people with unknown affiliations, etc), so where is the line and limit? That's the issue with social media now – they're determining for everyone else what's right/wrong/true/false. I know this wasn't the heart, but maybe how some felt. I just saw it as the typical forum drama and personally wish he would have stayed the course and didn't delete the account.

I wasn't on here for it, but apparently he was being attacked by shills and angry anons over the whole GeorgeNews drama. There are two sides to every story. So some say people were way too hard on him, others say he got too emotionally involved and went on a power trip. I'm not sure which is correct, but I'm guessing it's a little bit of both. We're all human. Evspra was always my favorite mod, so I feel protective of him.

He ended up deleting his account because of all the attacks. This is what I've pieced together, anyways. I'm getting it second hand, so hopefully someone that was on at the time will have more information.

Scared to ask. I spent 15 minutes looking through 435 george threads and couldn't figure it out. Yet I'm sure some bastards here will tell you to screw off and figure it out from the billions of posts about how george is financed by soros or whatever

I don't necessarily have a clear side to take on this, but damn your name suits you. Tone it down a notch. I understand one side of the argument is protection from disinformation, and the other is an argument for unilateral free speech. Honestly, I believe that both are important, and he was clear with the direction he was taking on it. Nobody should blindly follow any information, but, I understand, he was making that decision for everyone on the forum. A regularly updated stickied post giving a warning about GN probably would have had the intended effect. But, this butthurt mob mentality is destructive. It's cancel culture. Think if how beneficial his other work on the site was. To close, he clearly said that he would be banning only the links - not people. If he was doing otherwise, and then someone made a "fuck this mod, I got banned for free speech post", I usually write those off as shills anyways, since the site TOS is straightforward, and if you don't read stickies, you're not on here to be a part of the forum.

I agree about 90%. I think a ban was definitely out of line, but even a sticky saying "GEORGE NEWS Should Not Be Trusted" while evidence on both sides is still being presented seems to be premature. A sticky saying something like, "Is GEORGE NEWS Trustworthy?" or "Investigating the Legitimacy of GEORGE NEWS" would have been very appropriate, however. Something that causes people to consider that they may or may not be who they claim and points toward evidence from both sides so people can decide for themselves, but not a sticky that presents a final decision from the outset when there really hasn't been THAT much solid evidence presented from either side at this time. Thought-provoking--absolutely. But not irrefutable. That's a very important distinction for a topic this serious. The claims George has made are significant. He has NEVER claimed to be Q (refuted it, in fact), and he has reiterated the "no outside comms" rule himself many times, but there is enough of a "we're someone important" message that their statements need to be looked at very carefully. If they are true, it would be very helpful for us to know that. If they are NOT, then we REALLY need to know that.

Anyway, while I tend to lean more pro-George than anti-George at this point, I'm certainly open to watching how things play out. Having watched the George phenomenon closely since it started really gaining traction in January and watching how several of the discussions were playing out both on this board and on their telegram (before they closed comments yesterday morning), it doesn't bother me AT ALL that Evspra took the time and effort to start digging into George's legitimacy--I think that was very smart. The concerns that were brought forward certainly merited investigation and discussion. However, as OP's have said, none of these concerns were conclusively damning as presented, and counter arguments and pro-George evidence should be looked at just as closely before making a judgment. This process did not feel like it was allowed to play out completely. In fact, fairly early on in the discussion, I felt like those who wanted to present pro-George evidence were really put on the defensive. The "correct" narrative had already been established at the opening of the conversation (though Ev did initially say he was open to looking at any other evidence or views--this seemed short-lived, however), so presenting an opposing view felt like an uphill battle from the start.

What probably concerned me the most, however, was the continued assertion that George just instabanned everyone who raised questions and didn't address any of the concerns people took over there. I watched a fair amount of this play out (though not all), and this is simply not correct. Some people did get banned, for whatever reasons, but a number of others were not, and George DID give reasonable answers to the various concerns. It's up to each person to decide whether those reasons are "good enough", but it's not fair or accurate to say they DID NOT ANSWER. Perhaps at least as importantly, from the discussions I saw, George's responses were consistently upbeat and positive, in contrast to the accusatory attitude with which many (though not all) of the concerns were being brought up. I will admit, I don't like how many comments ended up being deleted off their site as the day went on yesterday--some I understand, but there were others I thought could have stayed up--and I don't like that their comments appear to still be closed more than a day later. I think a positive outcome of this (ugly) discussion has been the fact that we are, as a community, taking a step back to assess the situation with GN rather than just jumping on the bandwagon or dismissing it out of hand. The truth will come out eventually, either way.

Yes, I don’t know if GN is legit or not but I enjoyed the vids they were posting that I probably wouldn’t have seen any other way. Every little red pill helps and what if the mod was wrong in their assessment? That hurts us on both sides. Let people make their own judgements. I’m sus of this site bc I’m seeing history from other bad subs repeating itself.
