Saw an elderly lady without a mask while shopping today; gave her a big smile and said how nice it was to see another face. She cried "Oh no - I forgot!" and rummaged for her face diaper looking flustered, scared and ashamed. Groan.

Happened to me too. Just think, if they managed to get through the entire shopping errand without the mask (or the fact nobody said anything to them), it would have been a small red pill once they realized it... breaking the control over them.
Now when I see somebody without a mask, I only nod at them if they make eye contact, otherwise I don't say anything.
I will do the same :)
Yeah. Don't make more than that much of a deal out of it. No mask is the normal and even though OPs intentions were good, in reality they just reinforced the "new normal" standards.
Don't validate the mask at all if you can avoid it.
I wear my mask under my nose in the grocery store and nobody says boo. I also never see a maskless person in the stores. Never.
I went to a grocery store in Summerwood, Texas, NE of Houston yesterday afternoon. Roughly 1/2 the customers weren't wearing face masks. About 1/4 of employees weren't wearing masks either. Nobody really cared if you did or didn't.
More and more businesses are simply going sans-mask these days.
Great, wish that would happen in the UK.
I was the only one in my supermarket today without one. I live in a mask mandatory state.
All I wanna do when I am surrounded by the mask zombies is tell them to take off their masks.
Wait till you live in unmask state such as Texas and more people than not still wearing masks, ughhh???
I don't live in one, I live in NC with a Dem Governor who mandated the masks and the Republicans in our state lost their super majority the last election so they cannot do a damn thing about it. No other Dems would cross over to vote with the Republicans.
In the meantime, we just got back from a vacay in SC which is a non mask mandated state. I found it even easier not to wear one there. No one said a thing to you about it in any store but Costco. And yeah there were still too many people there wearing them. All I wanna do is yell at them. TAKE OFF YOUR FACE DIAPER!
Same here. People were literally scurrying away from me over the weekend like "OMG he has no mask?".
People would forget there’s a pandemic if they’re went constantly reminded.
Someone else likely regretting wearing one may overheard you.
That self reflection may be a boon to them later, cause they will start self reflecting, wanting validation for something brave, but no one thanks another for WEARING one.
OMG
Same thing happened to me a few months ago in my hometown. Told her how nice it was to see another smiling face and she exclaimed that she had forgotten and then put it on. Sad :(
I was walking my dog Sunday morning early. An older lady approached coming in the oppo direction on the sidewalk. I removed my dog from the sidewalk so she could pass then I stepped into the road as she waited in the driveway on the sidewalk. Then she says, it's not the dog I am worried about. ? I had no mask, she had no mask, as we were both walking outside. I just thought, good Lord another sheeple. I saw her a little later on the oppo side of the street and I said "is this far enough far you" and she said something about a half mile. She thought I was talking about how far we had walked. Duh, derp.
Wow what are the chances.
One store which I've been in before with no mask asked me at the door if I had a mask today.
Feels bad, man.
Went to get my stupid muffler from the car. Saw people wearing masks in the parking lot. I'm like: "What the hell is the matter with you people?"
Started feeling like the last man on earth again.
Went into another store without a mask. Saw a woman coming the other way, no mask. I smiled. She smiled. Big, beautiful smile. And she gave me a thumbs up. And I gave her one too.
Feels good, man.
I constantly have that last man on earth feeling.
However i saw two random people out on the street without masks today. Felt good, if you've seen any of my videos you'd know how bad it is. Over here people jog and walk their dogs with masks on. I keep waiting for someone to faint from hypoxia.
I had a very similar experience yesterday

she didn't forget, just doesnt want to be harrassed. she might have misunderstood you
I still see most of the "sheeple" in town wearing their mug-diapers when I'm shopping. We never had a state level mask mandate in South Carolina, but the tin-pot gods of the Aiken City Counsel apparently had to go along with the their marching orders and make this asinine rule. Some of us have already started ignoring it, however, and nobody seems to notice or care. One thing this freak show has revealed is the shocking degree of submissiveness in our fellow countrymen! I really didn't know it was THIS bad until this past year.
Its scary to see how dumb and compliant people are. And depressing. Have to keep looking past it and keep going in faith and hope.
I felt this today.. went to pick up a prescription an as I'm sitting in the seat area, there was a line of people to get their second shot. I was unmasked of course.. an I'm sitting there watching this guy who I sat right by (purposefully) thinking what can I say to this dear man to maybe save his life.. sigh. It's heart breaking not to be able to save your fellow man( or women)..
i always wear a baseball cap when im going maskless that way they dont see me on the cameras just pull it down over your eyes maybe wear sunglasses too lets start a movement
The end won't be for everyone.
I almost said that to a guy at the nursery but decided not to because he seemed to want to keep to himself. Don't want to embarrass anyone who's already shy. It's hard to know though.
That's kinda funny though.
God bless you.
Now you mention it, yes. Need a laugh, its been "one of those days". Thanks.
She won't forget
Let her die like the foolish dog she is. No sympathy for the devil from me
You can't. I said "You don't need it", "I DO" was her reply as she hurried off. Sad.
You weren't to know. You did the Lord's work. It was not yet her time.
You can't shake them awake.
Thats when you get mad at her and yell (maskless) “how DARE YOU! YOU are killing MY GRANDMA!!”
You cant help total strangers without influence over them. It is unfortunate, but you can only spread the knowledge to those who have reasons to trust you.
