Just dawned on me that is why Trump endorsed him. Trump supporters knew better than to vote for him, but now that Trump supported him, when they show the cheating on the election, the democrats cant say he only contests the elections he doesnt like.
That, or trump has to look impartial, so when Lin gets some high position (scotus may be too high) they cant accuse trump of nepotism or anything, since he skipped over lin (even though we all know Lin is a mega patriot).. Optics are important...

We don't possess enough factual information to justify attaching negative or fear emotions to Trump's endorsement or Flynn's statement...or anything else about the Q phenomenon, the timing of the operation, or the method and time frame of Trump's triumphant return.

I think President Trump had to distance himself from Lin. I like him and he is a patriot but he has put some pretty volitol stuff out there about John Roberts and Mike Pence.
