You know, I used to crack jokes as Canada was a real country with real border control, primarily based on my travel experiences.

Don't arrest them, just turn them around and tell them the only way to enter is legally. Those who do get through put them on a bus back to Mexico City.
He says they're going to be sitting in jail for six months. What the hell? How much sense does it make to give them room and board at the taxpayer's expense?
The point of the rhetoric of sitting in jail for six months is to give pause to people who are considering crossing the border. That was part of the reason why Trump was so hard on immigration issues on TV but the actual policies were very humane and for the benefit of all parties involved. The TV rhetoric scared people away from crossing thereby stemming a lot of the "moral" border crossing. By moral I mean non-coyotes drug dealers, human traffickers, just people who are looking for a better life. I know that is questionable definition of moral but I dont have a better word to use.

When you catch them in northern Brewster county or halfway to San Antonio you have to arrest and arrange transportation back to Mexico— many aren’t encountered at the actual border— Texas is very big
The money TX would save by not arresting could go towards finishing the damn wall, after they return ALL illegals to the Mexico of course.
This is in line with the states-rights, limited federal government that trump has pretty much always done, leave it to the states. He did the same thing with corona restrictions, left it up to the states.
I thought the same thing and when I read that Abbott waited for the counties to act, it made sense.
It would be relatively inexpensive to house them in tents and feed them bologna sandwiches. Summer in South Texas would be just like home. Worked for Sheriff Joe in Arizona.

It’s about time. border states, like TEXAS, should maintain their own border policy, rid themselves of federal funding, and meet in DC a few times a year while building their own unique character. The nation would be culturally richer if states treated DC with friendly distance.

I met game warden few weeks back. They just had caught illegals after high speed chase, up by Hallettsville. So we are all endangered during chases. Warden phones ICE or border patrol who says release them. Fuck Biden and his lack of regard for US citizens and safety.

This is amazing because now Biden would be forced to tell them to stop arresting people crossing the border, possibly trying to send in the feds to stop the state from enforcing its own laws and border. Of course I can see the Reddit narrative already "imagine if California arrested anyone from Colorado crossing into their state, that's totally the exact same thing here!"
