I was in the US Navy during the same time John McCain was.
Actually, he got out after I did.
I never met John McCain or did I ever hear his name spoken before while I served in the US navy.
However, there was lingering "talk" about 'some' individual, and his name was never mentioned.
Here's how I learned about "NO NAME".
I learned about "NO NAME" in a Damage Control (DC) class (that all personnel were required to take). Shipboard personnel were required to take these courses repeatedly. It was something they wanted to really drum in everyone's head. Whenever, there is a mishap and the sea-worthiness of the vessel is threatened, it is Damage Control (DC) that is taught that can save a ship from sinking. I'll let the reader find out about DC on their own.
After 44 years, I still have dreams about the times I had to watch the tragic CV-59 USS Forrestal Fire film. I remember EVERY aspect of it. I watched it so many times.
A couple of my DC instructors were "old-timers" that were stationed on the USS Forrestal when the famous catastrophic conflagration occurred.
Everyone on that ship KNEW what actually happened to cause this fire and carnage to occur.
The two instructors I had for this DC course told me that the Forrestal fire was the result of a single'certain' person, who they could not name, but told me was a son of a high admiral in the US Navy.
I remember asking - if it was an accident, why couldn't the name of the person be mentioned? I was told that everyone knew on the Forrestal who it was. One instructor told me the ones that did speak out, got different orders and disappeared. These instructors knew not to speak his name because they didn't want their careers ruined either.
I'll say this, I never knew who NO NAME was while I served in the Navy. I only found out later who NO NAME actually was afterwards and it hit me like a pile of bricks. This was well before 'Q' came on the scene.
Isn't it interesting that 'Q' referred to John McCain as "NO NAME".
These instructors off the Forrestal could never say his name because they were ordered not to reveal his name.
I wonder if 'Q' knows John McCain caused the Forrestal disaster, in which 134 sailors died and 161 more were injured and the reason 'Q' referred to him as "NO NAME?
Thank you for your service and for sharing your story, fren. It's imperative that we shine a light on these dark times so that the world learns the truth. Far too much has been hidden in the shadows.
I am positive Q would know about the disaster on the USS Forrestal and the hot shot pilot that caused it all. The swamp is deep and as old as this nation. Thank you for the service you gave for our great country!
"In June 1967, Forrestal departed Norfolk for duty in waters off Vietnam. In the Gulf of Tonkin on 29 July, Forrestal had been launching aircraft from her flight deck. For four days, the planes of Attack Carrier Air Wing 17 flew about 150 missions against targets in North Vietnam from the ship. On 29 July 1967, during preparation for another strike, a Zuni rocket installed on an F-4 Phantom (#110), misfired, impacting an armed A-4 Skyhawk's side #405, parked on the port side.[10] The rocket's impact dislodged and ruptured the Skyhawk's 400-gallon external fuel tank. Fuel from the leaking tank caught fire, creating a serious conflagration that burned for hours, killing 134, injuring 161, destroying 21 aircraft and costing the Navy US$72 million. On the flight deck that day was Lieutenant Commander (later Senator) John McCain."
Ha! Tell me No-Name was responsible for the fire without telling me he was responsible for the fire.
"Political cartoonist Ben Garrison published a post that alleges that the late Sen. John McCain started a fire aboard the USS Forrestal in 1967 that killed 134 people. It said that McCain “wet-started” his plane, over-fueling the jet engine in order to create a dramatic plume of fire on ignition, and that the flame set off a bomb, which started the fire."
“McCain actually did an illegal ‘wet start’ which caused flames to shoot out the back of his jet and start a fire that caused the A/C behind him to catch fire and the resulting conflagration started bombs blowing up,” one user tweeted Tuesday.
“Dont forget McCain thought it would be Cool to Wet Start his plane on deck with bombs loaded which in turn killed several of his fellow soldiers,” another user tweeted Sunday."
The fact-checkers say the story is false, so you know darn well it's true.
'Wet-starting' a jet engine aircraft was an old 'hot dog' prank used in fly-boy country. My understanding is that with the newer aircraft this is no longer possible. In the 1980s Tom Cruz movie -- "Top Gun" when the character, "Maverick" 'buzzed' the Control Tower, it was actually a spoof of this. No pilot would ever dare buzz a control tower because this would certainly be grounds to dismiss any pilot from the military. Incidentally, it's very ironic that John McCain was commonly described as a '"maverick" during his actual political career. Premeditated 'wet-starting' an engine on an open airfield wasn't nearly as determinable. Sometimes it occurred due to poor judgment and inexperience. There was always some 'plausible deniablity'. However, an aircraft carrier is not an open airfield. The rules are much stricter due to the higher density of aircraft and traffic. Therefore, it was strictly managed. The air wing on-board are highly trained to manage the movement of aircraft at all times, especially in 'air-ops'.
I once witnessed an aircraft-traffic controller direct a pilot to maneuver his aircraft one way, but the pilot turned the opposite way. The result was that the air-traffic controller was put in the path of the jet engine exhaust and I watched this individual get blown like a leaf in the path of a leaf blower into the "island" (super structure) of the ship. He was very lucky of the direction he was blown and that it wasn't to sea side of the flight deck. He could have been easily blown overboard. I ran down from the O9 level to the O3 flight deck level only to see this guy being helped in inside the door by others. The whole time this shaken individual was swearing and cursing about the pilot that screwed up. I'm sure the pilot was reprimanded for this.
Wet-starting an engine on an aircraft carrier is beyond stupid. It turns out McCain did a lot of very stupid things in the military. I believe he has the record for destroying and costing the military for crashed aircraft.
He was probably a true believer, at least later, but this disaster is probably how they kept him controlled in the beginning. Threat of that getting out and spending the rest of his life in a military prison
Yes, NO NAME finished at the bottom of his class in the US Navy. And if I remember correctly there was a total of 5 or 6 aircraft crashes he was involved in. If any military pilot crashed an aircraft, whether it was their fault or not, their career was pretty much washed up. NO NAME's career somehow survived despite all his crashes. His persona was actually that of "Maverick" in the movie "Top Gun". NO NAME was a known as a 'playboy' in the Navy just like Tom Cruz played in the movie. As a politician, NO NAME was also called a "Maverick". Coincidence?
The USS Oriskany came along to assist the Forrestal in transferring the injured on-board because the Forrestal was so overwhelmed with injured. I was told by these DC instructors of all the injuries that occurred on the Forrestal, NO NAME was the first to be transferred to the USS Oriskany. They told me besides having some cuts and scrapes NO NAME escaped injury. I recall them telling me the scuttlebutt was quickly spreading and the brass feared the Forrestal crew would kill him, so they had to remove him quickly. This was the reason why he was the first to be transferred off the Forrestal.
The photos of the POWs lining up to board the plane that took them out of Viet Nam, and the photos of the released former POWs show a man that looks healthier and heavier than the men around him. His eyes are also different. Look at the photos.
I missed it, and absolutely would have had you not posted and had it not been stickied.
Thank you so much. This article is AMAZING. So much to unpack about the Mockingbird Disease from an angle of which I was previously completely ignorant. Top quality stuff. I'm excited, yet saddened, about the breadth of knowledge this rabbit hole will provide.
Words fail me, honestly. I'm heartbroken but find myself even more forged by fire than I was mere minutes ago. A strange feeling.
Hugh Allen Stafford was one of the highest ranking POWs in Hanoi. He was a prisoner of war for six years. Author Jeff Norman wrote a fantastic book about Stafford's experience in Hanoi and the events leading up to his capture. Back in 2013, Glenn Beck did a story on his television program about Stafford and his fellow POWs. The words below were penned by Stafford on small scraps of paper during his time in prison and are an inspiration to all those in the fight for freedom. Thank you Commander, for your service and sacrifices for this country.
Scrawled on the inside of a cigarette carton, Beck described Stafford's letter as "profound." It reads:
“Don’t dread suffering. It only makes it worse. Anticipate it. Predict it. Even exaggerate it in your anticipation of it. Don’t fight a neurosis or a symptom of one. It may be a friend in disguise, a mere symptom of a deeper disturbance rendered less severe by it. A neurosis may well be a vital protective shield. Detach yourself from it. Predict it. Exaggerate. Laugh at it. It can safely and effectively be ridiculed away but not torn away. Try to find ‑‑ try to find meaning in this every circumstance. Meaning varies with the individual and with every circumstance. With him ‑‑ or with me it may vary by the hour. The meaning for a particular moment may simply be to endure that moment in a manner in which you can be proud of. But beware of false pride. Don’t expect too much. Perhaps in retrospect it will show that it was meaningful enough just to have endured, to have survived, to try. Perhaps at the end of it, it is just as meaningful to look back and say 'I tried' as it would be to say 'I succeeded.'"
This is the absolute most disgusting attempt to "right-fact" history that I've seen.
Yes. You had better goddamned believe US servicemen were tortured in Vietnam. But there were ones who weren't, and those were the ones who cooperated with the NVA to provide anti-US propaganda. The "evidence" presented by this article and the book it's trying to pimp are the testimony of one of those traitorous collaborators and the chief prison guard of the Hanoi Hilton.
It will also put the war we are fighting against the DS into context.
If you want to rip NO NAME for being a traitor, go ahead. He wouldn't be the first to serve in the military and then turncoat for 30 pieces of silver, and there's more than enough from his career in the Senate to curse him.
But don't try to diminish the patriotism and sacrifice the rest of the POWs made by promoting this commie BS revisionist history just to get at him.
About time this is revealed! I have a friend who was in the Navy for 20 years, starting a few years after the USS Forrestal disaster. I had watched a long documentary about McCain doing a wet start that started one of the worst disasters in Naval history.( You tube took it down several years ago) Then the coward did nothing to help out on deck, but went below to throw a few bombs overboard, and then he left to watch what was going on on a live feed. I asked if it was true. My friend said "YES" We used to cover for him, but in later years, they quit denying it. He said McCain almost sunk that ship. Two good things that came about were; the lever that releases bombs are no longer easy to release when the pilot bails, and all of the men are trained in fire fighting. Not only were there 134 men killed, but many were badly injured. I asked if he did it intentionally. My friend didn't think so, but I am still suspicious. McCain did an interview that was on you tube, where he said he was the first person lifted off the ship because so many of the survivors blamed him for the disaster! What an asshole! There were many injured that should have been before him! That entitled SOB deserved what he got. It's just too bad "They can't kill him twice" !
Alex Jones was right again for 500. I found out a lot about song bird mccain. Also I was in the navy and also heard occasional rumours with no name mentioned.
While evaluating this article, please keep in mind who led the anti war movement and how Vietnam veterans were treated when they returned. They were treated like scum and called baby killers.. good reason they are over represented in the biker community.. There was a huge contingent of anti establishment types in congress, including Pelosi, ron Dellum and Bella abzug. The anti Vietnam veterans were led by the likes of John Kerry.
This version of those times is so very off, and the war was fought in the streets here. I laugh at what pelosie characterizes as an insurrection. I worked on the Hill during this era and the protesters were violent, threatening, destructive of art work and filthy. There were swarms of them in every office building on the Hill and in every corner of the Capitol itself. Obama's buddy, Bill ayers bombed the Capitol.
Btw, this so called civil war was a misnomer..north and south were always two countries and the arguments that the north were humaine soldiers are belied by every South Vietnamese i have ever known,, including an engineer who escaped on one of the last flights and the woman who does my toes who escaped over the mountains. The killing fields are very real. Communism at its best.
I was serving on the RN aircraft carrier HMS Eagle at the time and were shown the clip of the Forrestal Fire to show us what to expect if it happened to us.
We saw the Mighty F limping back home after repairs at Subic, a very sad and heartrending sight.
What I don't understand is if Mcstain did a wet start why were their aircraft behind him? Our A/C were always positioned at an angle for engine start which took the jet blast out over the rear and sides of the flight deck and to save space and for safety reasons. I can't see why the US should position their A/C one behind the other for starts, doesn't make sense to me. Am I missing something?
Stands to reason. Probably why he vetoed a bill in the 90s that would have investigated evidence of our military still being held in prison camps or hiding in the jungle LONG after the war ended. Don't want to rescue anyone who could come back and tell the truth about how he abused other pows, what a cowardly traitor he was.
Not that I don't think it's possible to introduce cancer into a subject, but how does everyone think he was executed? I know Q hinted at the cancer returning. Was it likely an old fashioned hanging or did they dot this guy up with cancer beams?
Article is bullshit. It claims Nixon was pro-war, when he actually ran on platform of ending the war and removed the vast majority of the troops. This is why Nixon was impeached, and why Trump was impeached (withdrawing from Afghanistan).
My knowledge of the history of the era is not sufficient to broadly disagree with your statements about Nixon. However, my reading comprehension is sufficient to disagree with your statement regarding the article's specifics. It simply states TPTB, which Nixon was admittedly in a prominent position, utilized the propaganda to their benefit. Your statement brings in your own knowledge (and possible biases) and uses them to adorn the article with words it never said.
Either your statement is a misguided emotional falsehood, or it is a deliberate poisoning of the well. I'll not judge.
Vietnamization. This is correct. One of the arguments for not cutting and running was because we would be responsible for the massacres that would follow. The anti war movement had one means of getting out of what Johnson got us into and that was cut off funding amendments to every possible bill. And every single amendment was a hard fought legislative battle. After nixon got us out, Congress stopped funding vietnamization. When the south was over run, congress stopped funding what congress got us into. We left the south high and dry.
The Nixon administration advanced their credibility and status in a desperate ploy to stir up support at home for an unpopular conflict abroad;
Yeah, this type of quote from the article just doesn’t jive with reality. There may be some truths in it, but you can’t reach a solid conclusion when your foundation is that far off.
I should have said, congress HAD stopped funding the south. All those members who had withstood the stop funding amendments, turned on their own stated beliefs and wouldn't support what they created. I remember well the stories about no ammunition, no gas, broken equipment.
We didn't lose a battle but lost the war and left millions to be executed and re-educated. I was on my honeymoon when Saigon fell and watched the desperate evacuation, bawling my eyes out. It was perhaps the first chink in my theretofore assumption that the government was made up of honorable souls.

My father in law was a Swift Boat commander during the Vietnam War. To this day, he refuses to talk about John Kerry. That's all I need to know.

I guess this clears up why Q called him "No Name". It's a mocking of McCain for this cover up.
u/#q732
You can just hear how much disdain Q had for No Name. I doubt the Forrestal was the worst of McCain's crimes.
You know it's bad when he mentioned McCain more than bushes or Obama
I'm sure Q+ took a part in writing that drop.
It wasn't.

A wet start wasnt what caused the mishap. It was a stray voltage check during a hot load that did it.
See my other comment here in this post.
You're telling us the 'official' story used as a cover-up. Too many witnesses say otherwise.
I don't see any other explanation by yourself in this thread. Please elaborate.
Just not soon enough.
Attack Carrier Air Wing [17]???
Makes you wonder about Dan Cringeshaw.
Is this why they have Crenshaw pose as a Republican, too? Was he involved in anything?
They were still showing that video in 1982 when I joined. We also where clueless as to who it was.
Thank you for sharing your experience, sincerely.
He was probably a true believer, at least later, but this disaster is probably how they kept him controlled in the beginning. Threat of that getting out and spending the rest of his life in a military prison
They treated no name like a prince. He gave away American bombing routes. He is a coward and traitor. Trump knows.
Johnny wetstart.

How is a traitor normally treated?
