Several Area Departments Respond to Fire At Smithfield Foods in Illinois April 30, 2021 Local News

The cause of a Thursday evening fire in Monmouth is currently under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal.

According to a release from the Monmouth Fire Department, responded at around 6:42 to reports of smoke and flames coming from inside of the Smithfield Foods plant on North 6th Street.

Fire shuts down Nebraska JBS beef plant September 13, 2021

A fire Sunday evening at the JBS USA beef processing facility in Grand Island, Nebraska halted operations on Monday. The facility processes about 6,000 head of cattle daily. And while the plant was shut down on Monday, JBS, in a statement to Brownfield says they expect to resume operations on Tuesday, pending an ongoing assessment of the situation. The company says the fire did not impact the primary production area.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY — People in the village of Fayetteville, Illinois, are under a boil order after a fire late Monday destroyed a meat plant.

Firefighters nearly used up all of the water in the Fayetteville water towers, and the boil order is in effect as a safety measure until the towers can be replenished, probably for the next two days, police Chief Nicholas Mounts said.

The fire destroyed the Deli Star Corporation's meat plant. It is not considered suspicious, Mounts said.

Crews were called to the plant about 10 p.m. Monday and flames were coming from the roof. The plant works around the clock, and the six workers on that shift were able to evacuate safely. No one was hurt in the five-alarm fire.

Mounts said the plant employs about 130 people. The village, about 35 miles southeast of St. Louis, has approximately 400 residents.

7 Injured in Explosion as Fire Engulfs Food Plant at Shearer's Foods in Hermiston, Oregon; Smoke Visible for Miles By Jake Thomas On Feb-22-2022 at 10:01 PM EST

The explosion occurred Tuesday evening at Shearer's Foods in Hermiston, a city in agriculturally rich eastern Oregon. No deaths have been reported from the blast, but the extent of the damage to the plant and its future were not clear. City officials are concerned what the fire could mean for the community and local economy.

"It looks like everything is indicating that it is going to be a big loss, and we don't know what the parent company will decide to do," Hermiston City Manager Byron Smith told The Tri-City Herald. "But we know that 400 people roughly worked there, so it will have a big impact on the community."

In response to the blast, Union Pacific Railroad has closed down traffic on its nearby rail line, according to the sheriff's office. The state department of transportation has also closed off a section of nearby Highway 207. Additionally, residents living south of the explosion in an RV park and two hotels have been told to prepare for a possible evacuation because of air-quality issues caused by the smoke plume.

Explosion causes fire & injurs 7 at Northeast Oregon Shearer’s Foods potato chip plant HERMISTON, Ore. Feb. 23, 2022 8:12 a.m.

The plant supplies much of the Western U.S. with potato and corn chips.

When it’s operating at full capacity, the plant employs up to 400 people, said Hermiston City Manager Byron Smith.

“This is the largest fire our District has seen in the last decade,” Umatilla County Fire District 1 tweeted Tuesday. About 60 firefighters responded to assist at the scene.

According to reports, the cause of the explosion which originated near a boiler is still under investigation.

This reminds me of that time (over the last 2 years) that a bunch of pharmaceutical and/or chemical companies in India and elsewhere that were involved in manufacturing components for hydroxychloroquin and ivermectin were all having "accidental" fires. Also medical facilities that were doing studies on the effectiveness of these cheap medications were also having strange fires and events that shut them down and destroyed the research.

I lived in VA near the Smithfield farm. I moved away, but when I heard a China company bought them I was upset! I haven’t bought their products since. When I heard about the fire, I couldn’t help but wonder if an American had enough.
