Makes sense. They saw how social media brought about the arab spring in 2010 & they would have the intel to know who instigated all that & how & what their future plans were. So yes, they would figure out their counter plan & by approaching Trump such that he started Truth Social the next year means those guys think through things & make their very involved plans very quickly!

Not to be a downer, but a lot of companies registered all sorts of domain names that they thought might be commercially viable. There are probably registered domain names like "connect.com", "interact.com", etc. (or numerous versions of words that relate to social interaction), out there, just in case someone wants to start yet another social network.
