My kid was just kicked out of a private lefty school, he is six years old.

Does anyone know of good sources for homeschooling learning pods in the south Jersey area? We do not do Facebook and that is where most of these homeschool moms are networking through.

If you can't find one that's already formed, you can put the word out and get one started.

Also, six year olds learn far more just from helping you and his pops around the house. Involve him in everything even though it takes longer. He'll be leaps and bounds ahead of his peers. But if you're already committed to homeschooling, this last suggestion is no doubt moot.

My daughter had eight years with a remote schooling called Oak Meadow. It comes with a big box full of activities. She loved it!

I agree with this. I taught my children to bake bread, roast meat, tidy their room and do their washing etc. These are skills that will be useful for the rest of their lives.

Also, painting, house renovation, doing accounts (when kids are older), etc.

And during cooking you can teach him basic math including fractions and switch up what you measure with to metrics. He'll pick it up so easily.

Kids that stay home longer are smarter and more confident in general.

Good post. Good subject fpr all Patriots to start thinking about.

Prolly cause he thinks for himself, and does not accept or relate to the non-reality pushed on him. This will be good in the long run, but tough and time consuming in the short term. Keep the faith; one step at a time.

We are a CC family and I tell you, it's magic! My 4 year old sings about the plague killing 1 out of 3 Europeans. My 10 year old knows about Charlamagne. They know things that I didn't even know existed at their ages... heck, I didn't know about until I was in CC with them! CC is magic and amazing. I highly recommend it!

Homeschooler of 4 here, only homeschooled. My first is in line with the unschooling comments. Take time to evaluate “their” process and whether it is best.

Second is, do what is best for your family. Any money will come with strings for control, so be very untrusting.

Curriculum or individual picks, whatever is best for you, no “programs” for us.

Here is a resource https://k12.hillsdale.edu/.

Enjoy the journey, acknowledge there may be some withdrawals and some realignment of “norms”.

When we home schooled (starting in the mid 80s) we quickly and easily found the others around us doing the same just by bringing it up with others in our town, starting with our friends, who often had a friend or two that were home schooling and would arrange an introduction. Made for a large loosely connected circle of folks in our county that could hold/create special classes and events. It was a great experience.

Go online to your state's Department of Education. Nearly all states have remote learning materials by age/grade, and are designed for home education according to the state standards, with homework and quizzes included.

See if your department of education does have the materials online for download and printing. Be ready to add your own education to whatever the state standards provide and your child can excel ahead of their class.

With all due respect, “homeschooling” with the state’s materials is just public school at home, and they are still indoctrinating the students in goodness knows what. Besides that, the whole process and structure of that educational system is not really designed to bring out the best in most students to begin with. If we will ever be truly free as a society, we have to completely stop looking to the government to direct, oversee, or monitor the education of our children.

▲ 3 ▼
– Retaining_H2O 3 points 3 years ago +3 / -0

I fully agree. That's why I said be ready to add your own education to it. The State curriculum should keep a reasonably intelligent child busy for about 90 minutes of education per day.

Be sure to add your own education in geography, reading, writing, math or any subject. You can also toss the state reading material and substitute your own.

– Sadness 2 points 3 years ago +2 / -0

The advantage is that you can preview what they are about to teach - and discard stupid stuff. There is still some Mathematics and English, Physics and Chemistry to pursue, and some people rely on those state certificates when the child grows up, including universities and employers. I am not saying that one needs these certificates - one of my home-schooled children is now a regional manager of an international company, without ever getting any qualifications, and got his first job because he simply marched up to the employer and stated that he wanted the job, when the rest of the applicants sat on their seats waiting to be called (just like in school). BTW. We Homeschooled for ten years before switching to a state online school.

This was in the back of our minds since we flew a American flag on Columbus Day from our truck when we dropped off and picked up. The school didn't recognize Columbus Day and was promoting indigenous people day. I got some dirty looks from other parents and one may have taken a pic of the truck. It's 90% lefty's there at the school just like the town it is in.

We are Italian and Montessori is Italian as well so we wanted to celebrate our heritage. It's said if that is the reason but at the same time, It's good that their true colors were shown as I wouldn't want my kid around other kids that had parents that behaved in such a way.

All excellent resources. Government schooling is dumbed down. I homeschooled my daughter for sixth grade and she finished her algebra curriculum (“Math You See”) in five months. You will be amazed!

P.S. Set your own family schedule, e.g., vacations, outings, dr. appointments, etc. You won’t regret it.

– SaltyKarens [S] 3 points 3 years ago +3 / -0

Yeah, we got in right at the beginning of the pandemic, so I think there were spots because a lot of people were scared to send their kids to school. This was their elementary program that he was currently in and they still do not have a wait list. The Pre-K and k programs have 2 year wait lists.

We loved the teaching style when it was good. There was recently a lot of turnover and then came the diversity hires. Unfortunately, everything woke turns to shit.

We homeschooled our 4 kids completely - no public or private schools. We used the Robinson Curriculum. Single purchase that lasts k-12. We supplemented with Saxon Math and additional science resources.

Don't let anyone else influence your children unless they are fully trustworthy.
