Even moreso than the middle of the desert, Greenland is a spectacular place to do secret research.
Interesting that the Air Force and FBI (iirc) busted some guy over Area 51 stuff recently.
I've heard it also doubles as a summer GTMO. Bigger and better than Alcatraz.

Way back when... Thule was known for decades within the Navy as one of the shittiest places you could get stationed. Nothing there. The weather sucks. Literally one bar/pub in town.
This was in the late 80s. I'm sure things have changed since then.
