Yeah - TIL one of her 1st hit performances was ‘Baby Burleskes’ an act that had little ones dressed down to their undies for a bunch of old men. Sad stuff - F hollywood - all of them.
I suppose that could be true for a 12 year old at the time. I would hope as a mature adult she would have reflected on it and gained the courage to speak about the evil rather than laugh about it. Larry King, who was not personally involved in her situation also laughed about it. He is trained to maintain his emotions, no matter the subject, and its one of the reasons he was a good interviewer. He laughed too. The mom also appeared to have laughed off that she was taken by surprise sexually, and as a mother, she missed a moment to show leadership to her daughter.
In the end, the fame and money was worth it to both of them to deal with sexual advances. That may be the case for most in Hollywood. The predators know it. People sell their souls for fame and fortune far too often and for far too little.
its much the same for larry king money for being a gatekeeper. i dont remember the specific interview where it was super obvious but his long tenure at such a position is really enough.
Yes, knowing what we know now, I am quite certain Larry King was just a paid propagandist all his career. He did it for the fame and fortune just like they do today.
There's quite a few Larry King documentary type videos floating around, from cocaine to sex, including speculation of murder.
When we die I wonder if we're given the chance to see truth. Some would say once we die we just move on, it's like taking off the VR glasses.... Others say there's nothing. I highly doubt the latter.
In the end it's safe to say that anyone that has gained celebrity status and economical windfalls are connected to the dark underbelly of life. On the contrary I realize there's people like Kirk Cameron (spelling?) that transcended their status from their youth and used it to do good and dedicated their life to God.... But alas that is very rare. For some, that celebrity status and what comes along with it ends up being way more than they bargained for. Unfortunately we also know that those that see the works of Satan and speak about it end up being "taken care of". RIP Isaac Kappy.... RIP Seth Rich.
The den of filth flourishes in darkness, but in the light it ceases and is destroyed.
i dunno...it doesn't sound like 'happy' laughter so much as nervous laughter to me...like... "this is a really fucked up story I'm telling, and it makes me really uncomfortable, so I'm going to try to laugh off that discomfort."
Could be wrong of course, but if you pay attention at the end of the clip, she almost sounds like she's on the verge of tears...
Enabling abusers continues abuse as well. Not sure how many viewers King had, but I suspect the laughing softened the crime. Laughing it off that both studios were bad, "they all do it," seems to me to be an enabling mechanism.
The alternative could have been addressing the sick predatory behavior that drives Hollywood. Having done so would have probably ended both King's career and negatively impacted Shirley.
It's all easy for me to say because it's not my fame or fortune on the line. This was a different time where such things were not spoken of. Maybe because of that, this was actually a big deal at the time. It seems miniscule now, as we are used to hearing so much worse now.
I think a big take away from The Great Awakening is that we have tremendous evil in our midst, and its always been there. It's a fight between good and evil.
As the world is more and more connected and power centers can ripple through civilation at the speed of light, we need to be prepared for today's battles and the battles yet to come.
People need to choose their side and stand their ground. Do we want to stand for good or evil? The choice is binary and the war is real.
One thing I would say is that laughter is a coping mechanism for some to deal with dark or tragic shit. It's certainly possible, though maybe unlikely, that they were both responding like this, or that one of them one and the other was following suit.
Though they should also try and push their feelings aside and remain professional seeing as they're broadcasting themselves to the world talking about this stuff. And give it the seriousness it deserves.
Thanks for the follow up u/SpaceManBob I appreciate it.
One of the things I am constantly reminding myself of is that the time and context of such interviews is drastically different than today's standards.
Today, we seem to have no standards at all.
Back then, discussing anything controversial or taboo was strictly forbidden. It was probably a breathtaking thing to hear back in the day and may have had a real impact on viewers.
As you say, the laughing may have been a way to soften such an attack on hollywood.
The fact that she was on CNN talking to Larry King about the experience is telling enough. Many people, even having been in the lion’s den, aren’t able to see how deep the corruption really goes. Sad.
Yikes...if that is the worst thing that ever happened to her, she is very lucky. I grew up on Shirley Temple and always loved her...but I really fail to see the humor of this situation...maybe these people just have a different view of what we expect in life.
I keep thinking it's not laughter of humor, but rather discomfort...she basically had just told a story about being abused to a national audience, I'd probably laugh too, and for much the same reason, discomfort...
Some people freeze, some people take action, some people try to deal with it by making a joke, etc. This is her cry for help 100%. Hollywood is all about control. How far will you go to get a role? What are you willing to do to be famous? Kanye told us…
Not sure I saw the one you've linked (probably did), but if it's the one where they talk about how Shirley Temple's dresses were always short, and even shorter in the back, and how her films seemed to revolve around a little girl surrounded by men, yeah, it's an eye opener. I also saw the Baby Burlesque ones on youtube. Disgusting is an understatement.
They both seemed to think this was really funny. To me, that's just as disgusting as the acts that occurred.
i think for her it was part cognitive dissonance. some things are to tragic to fully comprehend.
easy for us here and now not being a participant.
but finally it is wholly and completely repulsive.
Yeah, highly likely she was a victim of much worse. She made it through alive by not snitching me thinks.
probably especially considering she named them
Yeah - TIL one of her 1st hit performances was ‘Baby Burleskes’ an act that had little ones dressed down to their undies for a bunch of old men. Sad stuff - F hollywood - all of them.
that title alone states their intent
Ewww burlesque and baby should not be closer together than our star and Sagittarius A*

All just my personal opinion.
its much the same for larry king money for being a gatekeeper. i dont remember the specific interview where it was super obvious but his long tenure at such a position is really enough.
the love of money is the root of all evil

In the end God Wins.
Carry On!!!
Reading this makes me cry. This world is evil, but we can make it beautiful in God's image. Jesus Christ forgive us.

this sh!t has been laughed off for far too long.
Laughing at your own abuse is nowhere near as bad as actually abusing children.
I agree with that.
Enabling abusers continues abuse as well. Not sure how many viewers King had, but I suspect the laughing softened the crime. Laughing it off that both studios were bad, "they all do it," seems to me to be an enabling mechanism.

Agree with most everything you've said.

Today, it's like "Meh, next clip!"
The fact that she was on CNN talking to Larry King about the experience is telling enough. Many people, even having been in the lion’s den, aren’t able to see how deep the corruption really goes. Sad.
...truth...
Just a couple executives having some fun, no? Laugh it off and go back to work. This shit is sick and so reprehensible it hurts.
...Shirley was a tough cookie....
We're missing that toughness these days for sure. But in such an instance now, I wish the creeps would be called out and tarred and feathered.
...drawn and quartered sounds more appropriate, honestly...
...absolutely....
Pyramid earrings?!?!?
First thing I noticed.
Yikes...if that is the worst thing that ever happened to her, she is very lucky. I grew up on Shirley Temple and always loved her...but I really fail to see the humor of this situation...maybe these people just have a different view of what we expect in life.

They really were untouchable for all of human history. When Trump was elected they mysteriously started getting arrested like Epstein and Maxwell
the ones who "adopt" the ways of hollywood go on to be stars...this was a way to deflect from that reality...publicly
They made her a diplomat for keeping her mouth shut.
...it almost worked....
Some people freeze, some people take action, some people try to deal with it by making a joke, etc. This is her cry for help 100%. Hollywood is all about control. How far will you go to get a role? What are you willing to do to be famous? Kanye told us…
...valid observation....
Nobody ever said that Kanye was wrong.
Sometimes you laugh in order to not breakdown emotionally. Larry King has a lot of bones in his closet...I wonder if he died suddenly?
...valid observation...
Wasn't Larry King definitely part of the elite pedophile cabal too?
...Larry was an interesting cat....
Pedos were probably one of the intended targeted audiences for much of her filmography. This documentary clip about her movies is a real eye-opener:

...Lassie was targeted to dog lovers....
Remember, she ended up a politician. Just sayin
...indeed...
Hmm, Fried, Mayer, what do those names have in common...?
...doggy winks...
...both are not fans of pork?
Stop noticing things!
Her laughing at a naked coward was absolutely PERFECT to disarm him.
...truth....
Larry King looks like Norm Macdonald in makeup and a fake nose.
...howls...
...and how we all laughed.
...very nervously...
what the heck is the problem with these men? can't all the pedos be castrated? would that even take care of the problem?
...demon possession....
