Their are many witnesses. The inmates in the jail across from the book depository saw them,50- 100 witnesses it was reported to the fbi,but never given to the Warren commission.

One of the things I think a lot of people miss on "our" side of things is that sometimes people don't want to believe certain things.
I'll give a personal example; when I was ten, my mother met and later married a man with severe anger and alcohol issues who eventually started beating on my brothers and me. Despite me saying so and reporting it constantly, she insisted I wasn't being abused. It wasn't until he came home hammered and acting like the maniac he usually was when drunk that she was forced to accept it, even though he had personally attacked her before (and gotten the reciever of an old ringer telephone to the forehead for his trouble 😁).
It wasn't that she couldn't see the facts in front of her, it was that she didn't want to accept the conclusion staring her in the face.
I don't bring this up for pity, by the way, just as a handy illustration of my point, "there are none so blind as those who will not see," and all that.

I thought that was made perfectly clear in the 1991 Oliver Stone movie on JFK. I was 16 when I saw it and I formed my opinion then and that started my desire to dig for truth on everything. Everything taught to us during our lives was all a lie. Prepare for that thought.

But it has never to my knowledge been stated by any journalist or official that it is a publicly known and acknowledged fact.

Even now with all the info that has come out about the CIA doing the deed, people still don't believe it.
My brother is one of those,I've tried to debate/ discuss it with him,but he doesn't want to change his views.
