I feel a bit guilty in asking for this frens, especially given the number of people who have humans in their lives with medical issues, but I'm going to ask anyway. I love my dogs dearly and those two have been a shining light in my life during some tough times the past few years. I have a 5 year old Australian Cattledog and a Landseer Newfoundland.
My 4 year old Newfoundland is experiencing discomfort and pain and three vets haven't been able to figure out why. His condition is deteriorating and we're going to be bringing him to the local university for an MRI soon. The concern is cancer.
He was the most difficult puppy I've ever raised. The first two years he didn't care about my love or approval and was borderline untrainable. Tough to admit for a guy that has trained over 30 dogs for other people as well as 8 of my own over the past 30 years.
Then suddenly at 2 years old, he decided that dad was a pretty okay guy that was not only worth listening to, but maybe worth loving as well. He's been my good boy ever since. 175lbs of furry, drooling love and companionship. He is the craziest, funniest, weirdest dog I've ever had the pleasure of owning and I love him dearly.
I am terribly worried I'm going to lose my boy. If any of you could spare a prayer or two for me tonight, I'd deeply appreciate it.
I just got a flash in my mind that he has swallowed something he shouldn't have, which is stuck sideways in his digestive tract somewhere and is causing pain. It can't move via normal peristaltic action and it is causing a blockage. I hope the MRI or an X-ray will locate it and have the surgeon extract it and relieve him of this pain.
Good luck and let me know what you find.
Not an uncommon condition in a large dog. They can also get intussusception (telescoping) of the bowel. Abba Father please help this furry boy and his owner.
I trust those flashes of insight. It’s like something pulls back a curtain for an instant. I believe most have this sense when born, but it gets squashed out of them, and they deny more senses than 5.
Fren.
Thanks, fren!
So this is crazy CO, but I've had the same feeling at times when putting my hands on him. I'm praying you're right. I'll make sure I send out updates as things progress.
Please do.

Dear Lord, I pray for this man's loving pet and companion he has had these last 4 years. I ask that you heal him and keep him the loving dog that he is. You are the creator of all things Lord and we put our trust and faith in you for his healing. Grant him many more years of life dear Lord and make him the greatest pet a person could ever own. We thank you for hearing our prayer Lord as we lay this at your feet. In Jesus holy name we pray. Amen.
As a pet sitter, I totally understand what you’re going through. Each and every dog that I pet sit, I fall in love with. Sometimes when I’m home alone, I missed the animals. I miss them a lot. But the emotion hasta be much more deeper for ownership.
If your dog is diagnosed with cancer, look into the fenbenzodole - is cures cancer in animals and humans. Whatever you do, don’t listen to your dog oncologist, they don’t think anything different than normal doctor would think for people.
Prayers going out to you.
Praying for your pup. They are angels on 4 legs.
Prayers for your Newfoundland, fren. I wish you and him all the best.
Just in passing,is your cattle dog a stumpy tail, or is a normal "blue heeler" or "red heeler"?
Just asking as I'm Australian, and the "heelers" are almost an unofficial icon in Australia along with the Kelpies.
They are usually very intelligent and can be quite mischievous and a real handful to keep them amused without chewing everything in sight!
She is a stumpy tail with blue heeler coloring and before I got to your next sentence I figured you must be Australian. No American has any idea what a Stumpy tail cattle dog is. You made my morning with that question :)
She is one of the most clever dogs I've ever had. But she is without a doubt the craziest, most mischievous dog I've ever had. WEIRD sense of humor with that one. She's my "little" buddy (she's 65lbs but compared to the Newf she's little) and goes with me everywhere. My velcro dog. But despite her weird sense of humor and mischievous nature, she's one of the easiest dogs I've ever trained in 30 years. She picked things up so quickly.
She is the boss in her relationship with the Newfoundland. She was a year old when we brought home the tiny ball of fluff that was my newfoundland puppy and so he learned everything from her about being a dog. That's my other concern here with the Newf's health: I've always had pairs of dogs and I've never had a pair that was so inseparable as these two. It's literally a dog marriage and I'm just praying they live good long lives with one another.
The way you describe your "bluey",is completely typical of cattle dogs! They are an excellent dog! They are incredibly intelligent and they can be a challenge because they love to work!
They usually are very good and gentle with kids, but you have to be careful in case your dog nips, most don't. They herd kids and watch over them, very protective.
With the stumpy tails, they aren't that common in Australia. We mainly just have the long tailed ones and more blues than reds.
Best of luck with your Newfoundland and I hope it all goes well for him.
Do you remember the "blue heeler" in Mad Max 2, the Road Warrior?
She is fantastic. I rescued her when she was 6 months old and the bond was instant. Such a unique breed. Absolutely unflappable. And you're not kidding on needing a job. Tasks and training have been a constant for her the past 4 and a half years along with about an hour and a half of daily exercise every day. As long as she gets both, she's good as gold every single day.
I have young nephews and nieces and she constantly herds them lol. So you've answered a question I've always had and that's how common the stumpy tailed variant is in their homeland. I must confess, I wasn't looking for a stumpy tailed heeler at the time, it just worked out that way. The breed is pretty rare here in the states and their psychological makeup and intelligence always appealed to me so she got rescued quick after I met her.
And hell yes I remember that heeler :) Good old "dog".
It sounds like you struck gold with The blue heeler. You have a faithful companion there! I hope it all goes well with the big guy, (the Newfoundland, not Joe Biden)
All the best,fren.
Thank you, Dirty :) A specialist appointment this coming Monday and then I'm guessing an X-ray at the local university on Tuesday. Unfortunately none of the local vets have an x-ray machine that can accommodate his size :(
We're keeping him reasonably comfortable with pain medication in the interim. Hurts to see my boy uncomfortable.
Thanks again :)
As a person just obsessed with dogs myself, and seeing how the "difficult" ones often end up being the ones we are extra devoted to, I sure do understand how you feel. You and your boy do have my prayers! Glad you are getting the imaging done. Might check your dogs bloodline for anything genetic. God intervened in miracles to help my animals. You'll have the Lord's help, too!
Dogs give us unconditional loyalty and love and we owe them as much. Prayers for you and your pal. Keep your head up and give your big guy a lot of positive hugs and attention. They feed off of our positivity. God bless.
Dear God, please protect and heal this dog and his master. Dogs are part of our family, and we love them dearly. May his symptoms stop as well as the reason for them. Please bless our fren and his dogs.
Sometimes it's not as bad as you think. Three years ago, the vet called and said he suspected bone cancer in my aging dog based on some x-rays they took, and he advised me that my dog probably wouldn't survive past a few weeks. The next day, he called again and said a specialist checked the images, and what they thought was cancer was actually a small fracture. My dog is still here and getting gray in the face now.
I will pray for you and your dog. One thing I also like to do in these situations is pray to the saints who watch over animals. I don't know what your religion is, but I bought my dog a blessed St. Francis medal to wear on his collar, and as crazy and goofy as this dog is, I truly believe that he has a doggy guardian angel who keeps him safe. God does love our animals and He will help.
We're all God's creatures whether we walk upright or have paws. Prayers that the doctors are able to diagnose and treat your furry child. And may the Lord help you find peace as you face the unknown.
🙏
Please don't feel guilty about this, Jesus said God watches over the sparrows, so surely He cares about your doggos.
Heavenly Father, please bring wisdom and guidance to the vets working with JackyDaytona74's dog, and give them the path for this good boy's healing. In Jesus' name.
Dear Lord, please cure this dog and what ails him. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
My prayers go out to you,,you did not mention his name. I pray that God fills you with strength, hope, and love. I pray that you give him to God and allow him to care for him with his love and reassure you that he will be safe from harm. Its so hard to lose pets that we love and care for. I love mine every chance I get. Stay well and may God bless you both.
Dear God, we know you love all creatures, humans and animals. Please shine upon this family and give them peace, love and healing. Help his dog recover from the illness he is experiencing, so they may have many years together. I ask this in Your name. Amen.

Praying for your dog, a fellow Newfoundlander.
Newfies are amazing dogs. Prayers for your pup.
I know how you feel fren, I have a crazy loving pup myself... All the best 🙏
Make sure he didn't swallow anything when you do that MRI?
Done
Don't feel bad about asking for help for your pets. Sometimes our fuzzy companions are the only creatures we can trust (ever increasingly in this world full of liars and evil humans), and they help us get through the toughest times. There's a reason why dogs, cats, and even horses are used as therapy animals that visit hospitals, clinics, hospices, and nursing homes. There's something about the simplicity of animals that helps us get past pain.
Prayers for you and your fuzzy frens!
Prayers for you and the pup as well as those at the next appt, to detect the problem and facilitate healing. Also, if cancer is detected, know that there are a variety of options to help heal more naturally you could start trying (fenbendazole (panacur or safeguard you can buy online), shark cartilage, mushrooms like turkey tail, etc).
Prayers will be sent for you and your dog my fren.
Lots of prayers going your way. Good luck!
Folks, I can't thank you all enough for the prayers. I'll send out updates as things progress.
You and he will be in my prayers.
Have you heard about the cancer protocols that include fenbendazole on this board? It's actually a dog dewormer and people have been using it very successfully to treat cancer. Might be worth looking into treating your pup with it.

I’ll be praying for your Fur-baby. I don’t have human children and I’ve always had a puppy or two or three. Hurts bad to lose them. He’s young, lord willing, he will recover and you will have him to love on for many more years. Prayers for you as well for peace through this hard time.
Do not feel guilty. We have prayed for our pets many time. Your boy has our prayers!
