I agree with the OP but, under 'normal' conditions. Right now, they don't care about downstream issues because if they can't stop Trump right now, it's game over for them. Thus, they don't care about subsequent consequences. They can see what's coming and they know that if they don't stop Trump they face the gallows. They must stop Trump now by any means possible.

Cohen admitted in sworn depositions and later in a court of law that he was the one who paid Daniels, without Trump's knowledge. He was a [DS] plant meant to bring about this very indictment, had all the other attempts failed, which as we saw, they did fail. So, it's all just a show for the court of public opinion to try to get as many MAGA people as possible to ditch Trump in favor of someone else. Anyone else.
