Our prayers were answered..
My son was in surgery about 8 hours.. he got to his room in the peds ICU about 12 hours post initial registration.. pretty long day for all of us π
The procedure went well, his nurse told me he woke up and said he felt "wonderful" this morning.
Today he will try to walk a bit and I am making him an epic smoothie because he loves those.. i am getting him all his favorite foods this week ππ
Thanks everyone for your prayers and messages.. it really means the world to us.
He has a rough stretch ahead recovering but he is so strong and hopeful. Precious little man..
Lastly, does anyone have any post surgery wound advice on how best to minimize scarring? Aloe.. mederma..
Bless you all.. I truly love you, Frens. π₯°
Praise the Lord!!
No first-hand knowledge on scar healing but Iβve heard of silicone scar strips, looks like mederma may make some.
Thank you so much! πππ
Glad to hear that!!!
As soon as the wound is closed use coconut oil - it has high antibiotic properties and helped A LOT with my father (Parkinson) when he got open wounds due to sitting and lying so much. NOTHING else helped so quickly, so cheap and so effectively - the only struggle was that with the nurses to use it and don't use the chemical creams. Wounds were healed within three days!
Also calendula extract mixed into coconut oil or extracted from leaves into the slowly heated oil. But for our problems (which were heavy) the coconut oil was sufficient!
You don't have to heat...just stirring heats the coconut oil up sufficiently to disperse the calendula...I use coconut oil as the basis for all my essential oil salves. Calendula is a terrific healer....have use Calendula ointment for over 43 years...my doctor gave some to me for diaper rash when my first child was born...and we have used ever since...
... calendula leaves disperse so easily? (decades ago I made my first calendula cream with glycerine and calendula leaves - it was a big mess to make it, heating up the glycerine and later separating it again from the leafs - but helped a lot)
(Edited -> leaf - leaves = I really have difficulties with my grammar today - lol)
Oh...sorry...I thought you were using calendula tincture or extract...or oil...any liquid stirs easily into the coconut oil...I have never made anything from the leaves...I imagine that would be a mess. I wonder if you could just place a calendula leaf on the wound much like the aloe vera leaf. I have never owned a calendula plant...but calendula is an all time winner in my book..............
I mentioned both. Calendula leaves are taken from the flower, yellow-orange like petals. They are very pretty in the garden, blossoming very long and they come again next year. Yes, the extract will be easier to handle. And the aloe vera leaves are really moist, but the calendula leaves are like flower petals.
Well...I only have calendula tincture, oil and ointment so I never messed with the flower...but thanks for the info...I also love coconut oil for everything...take it daily in coffee, give it to my pets in a bowl to lick, use it in my salves, pull...it is the only oil I use...
they look so beautiful and thank you for reminding me to take the more - for everything. I do the oil pulling with it, but next coffee will have the coconut oil in it :-)
Also putting a tablespoon of coconut oil in your coffee is a Keto thing. The fat in the oil makes you feel less hungry and it gives the coffee a nice mouth feel.
I buy Gold Virgin Coconut Oil by the gallon from Tropical Traditions...processed in the Phillipine the old fashioned way. It is pricey but very worth it...also the owner is a Patriot...very good site to order from....
If I may jump in here, would making a calendula tincture be like cold-steeping the petals in alcohol, or crushing them mortar-and-pestle and straining, or something else?
(I am no expert - please inform yourself also!)
If you make an alcoholic extract - yes, cold-steep the petals in it. This alcoholic extract will last longer (in a dark bottle) and can be used to be added to coconut oil or in a bath, tea etc.. - BUT this cold-steeping often has to be for 2 - 3 weeks to create the extract.
If you want to cure a sun burn or very light irritation, you could also make only a brew, with hot water poured over the petals and then treating the skin with it (good for kids or daily skin care).
If you want to treat a deeper wound, sometimes it is good that it stays on it for longer time, so you would take coconut oil (goes into the skin) or glycerine (stays very long on the skin's suface - slower process) and heat to make it fluid (but not boiling).
In this hot liquid you put the petals, turn the heat off or better let it slowly get colder while stirring. But after that you have to heat one more time to sift it through a cloth or very fine sift (that was the messy part for me).
If I remember correctly, it is also very good as a tea in case of stomach problems. Calendula is a very soft and kind herb like a loving touch, but a big healer.
Therefore the second name = Marigold :-)
Okay, the extract seems like the better plan, at least to keep it immediately handy for longer periods of time. Could you do the coconut oil with the extract instead of the petals? I presume the heat would evaporate the alcohol and leave the essence of the petals...
Calendula! A holistic doc I went to 20 years ago gave me some βhomemadeβ calendula salve for my scars from many surgeries.
Thank you so much! I have it on hand!
All the best for your son and your whole family, fren - God bless and protect you all!
Thank you so much π
the power of prayer glad to hear this fern give your son our best wishes...:)
Amen, fren!
Oh, lovely. Praise God.
πππ
Glad to hear he is doing well.
I am so relieved π thank you, fren.
For post scarring care look up DMSO (dimethyl Sulfoxide), it is a natural byproduct of wood mill pulp making and is amazing for helping attenuating scars in the healing process. All the best for you and your family.
Thank you so much! I will look for it!
I second u/LadyBoothall 's Vitamin E recommendation. Cream rubbed into and around the area several times a day, for weeks, made a neck scar almost un-noticeable.
I will verify vitamin E drastically reduces scarring. When I was five, I went behind my mom and threw a steak into a hot pan. The oil splashed on my face. My mom put vitamin E on the burns every day for about 5 or 6 weeks. I wouldβve gotten a spanking but she figured I was suffering enough. I canβt see the scars today and Iβm in my fifties.
Awesome. Will definitely be doing this! Thank you!
God Bless you and your family! Praise the Lord!!
This is wonderful news. God is great!
Truly.
Good news...
Lavender essential oil...
Arnica homeopathy...oral
Aloe...buy a whole plant and then take individual spikes and slice it open and lay it flat against the wound...change once the body absorbs all the gel...may lay on top of Lavender EO...or use Aloe gel...
Spraying colloidal silver keeps the wound germ free...although Aloe takes care of germs also...
I have the aloe! I didn't know arnica came in oral form! I have the gel.. I will look into the colloidal silver and get some lavender oil. Thank you!
Arnica are pellets..use one pellet under the tongue (sublingual) in a clean mouth...no food or drink 15 minutes before or after. You can buy in 30X or 30C...lower potency or
200X or 200C strength (higher potency)...put pellet in lid..don't touch...
Take about every 3-4 hours...can buy at Vitamin Shoppe...
Awesome! Thank you π
Praise the Lord

I have it open in a fresh tab! Thank you!
Great news! Thanks for the update. Be sure to get some rest.
We are all working on recovering from the experience.. thank you π
Wonderful news. Thank you, Lord.
Amen!
Thank you for the update. Your family is in my continuing prayers. GOD IS GOOD. My experience with scars is to keep the area from becoming infected (clean and dry) then use vitamin E oil after the area closes.
Thank you so much. We appreciate you and your prayers ππ₯° vitamin e is good stuff! I will definitely be adding it to his healing regiment!
Colloidal/Ionic Silver. Dramatically reduces scarring, and is a wonderful antibiotic. Also speeds wound healing. You can make it yourself. Before the age of pharmaceuticals, it was the number one disinfectant and antibiotic in the world. Praise God for your son's successful surgery.
I would definitely like to make it myself.. much cheaper than store bought.. not to mention I have no love lost over big pharm!
God is great! So happy that your son going well. I missed your original post, so I'm not sure what kind of surgery your son had. Research "vacuum assisted wound closure" - there are many suppliers. Vacuum treatment is a plastic bandage that is attached to a vacuum pump which keeps the wound pulled shut and extracts any seepage, reducing the chance of infection. It results in faster healing and less scarring.
For minimizing scarring, I suggest Vitamin E in combination with any of the rest of the advice.
Halleluyah! He came through!
He most certainly did. First item on my list! Thank you!
Vitamin E oil squeezed from the capsules rubbed onto the wound site AFTER THE WOUND IS COMPLETELY CLOSED will help to minimize the scar. He should be proud of that scar, as I am of mine; they mean that we have survived and we are stronger than ever.
He is one of the strongest and most beautiful souls.. a blessing for sure. Amen to the beauty of scars. Thank you, fren!
Red Light Therapy. Many good products out there. Excellent results healing skin problems, wounds and scars. Zero side effects.
Thank you!! I am getting one!
Praise God! I'm happy for your son's recovery. Also, aloe vera straight from the plant itself seems to work for me. (Cocoa butter is nice too)
Got it on hand! And I love the smell of cocoa butter π
Great news to start my day! Praise the Lord our God! Heβs performing miracles regularly! Thank you, God! May thornβs son be truly healed this time.
Amen π
So glad heβs doing well! I agree with coconut oil and I would add red light therapy. The cost can range but I use this one when I travel. Itβs amazing for scarring and will help internal healing as well.

Vitamins A, C, E, and zinc are the building blocks of soft tissue. Carlson makes a combo of all of those with selenium. Do some research on horsetail; it contains substances that repair and regenerate skin cells. Not medical advice, just things that have worked for me.
Another thought I have is B&W Ointment (burns and wounds). I met an Amish gentleman recently who told me the story of an Amish child who was severely burned over most of his body. His father did not want his son to go through the skin debridement process, so he made this ointment, rubbed it on burdock leaves, and covered the burns with the leaves. Apparently, the results were amazing and he was left with very little scarring. There are many pubmed articles/studies that confirm the effectiveness of this treatment.
Lastly, I would have your son avoid dietary sugar as much as possible.
I am not a medical expert, but hopefully some of this will be helpful for your son.
