I couldn’t figure out why some sites on would not load any images from my desktop. Mobile was fine. Turns out AdGuard added a new rule to their base filter.
What I find interesting is they did not block the sites. They just made them annoying to use. Perhaps hoping you wouldn't suspect your adblocker as the culprit.
My ad blocking software (adguard) was blocking all images on several conservative news sites. Only the text would be visible. Being as the source was from their main filter that they control, I assume this is affecting others as well.
Hmm. How long has it been that way? I honestly don't read any of these daily (but might via links), so haven't noticed it. But definitely see it when I just tried it. 🙄
Last year I tried to send out emails (via SMTP) and my ISP blocked them silently.
I found out and challenged them and they said that they had found links in them which were caught by their spam list which was provided by a third party.
Over the phone, I sent portions of my email until the ISP and I had identified the triggering links.
They were vax research links.
I told them it was censorship, which it is.
Sometimes you just have to zip the contents of an email I suppose.
I really wish there was a Slashdot or HackerNews that was worth reading and had good discussions. I left all of it years ago due to the woke crud and liberal hatred for anything they didn't think up.
TGP seems to be working normally though... I'm not sure how those rules work, never edited them manually myself, but still, a bunch of conservative news names there...
I use the desktop version of ublock origin. I right clicked it's icon, then selected "Trusted Sites" near the top of the screen. Then I added www.thegatewaypundit.com to the list, clicked on "Apply Changes" and now the pictures are back.
I suspect this is one of the annoyance filters to deal with annoying "give us your email" popups, seeing as it only seems to block a very specific line of Javascript.
I have the annoying filter enabled. I don't remember if TGP normally makes such an annoying popup.
Pi-hole is just about the best thing you can do, as it affects everything connected through it on the network.
Honestly, I'd only allow ads from a few select creators I enjoy (such as Shad) but I'd rather donate to them as directly as possible where the cut isn't as awful
indeed, there are pi-hole block lists for ads, of course, but also malware, spying (including microsoft) and so on. Plus it helps with mobile ads in apps that you can't otherwise block.
I've never had a problem with ublock origin blocking anything I wasn't telling it to explicitly block, and, on android you can add ublock origin to mobile firefox which is a game changer.
ads are not just an annoyance they are a security risk and a vector for malware and spying. TV commercials are horrible as well
Just checked Adblock Plus, and it's doing the same thing. It uses filter lists, so unless you want to disable those, you have to add sites (like thegatewaypundit.com) to the whitelist.
EDIT: Just realized you said Adblock Plus, a different product. Yet another coordinated hit.
For AdGuard: Go into preferences/filters, then select the base filter. Do a search for gatewaypundit. Unselect (disable) the one that starts with /^https?.
Ideally, all of us need to move on to a product that doesn't openly hate us. u/djmarcone had some suggestions up above. Pi-hole will be a little advanced for some, but u-block is just a browser plugin.

Explain this to me like I'm John Fetterman.
Just lay down in the hole John.

I was wondering why GWP was doing that to me.
Hahaha got it.
Too funny.
images load desktop. not like phone. these ad.. this ad.. uh.. guard.. adding new rules.. not okay!

I think it started late last week.

Its because you are a dictator and a fascists! HONK HONK 🤡
I was so pissed that they had censored my private outgoing email. I was seething!
I'm seething just reading about it.
Me too. I have heard that Deep Staters are censoring texts too. They are going after everything.
Good catch. I miss the old Internet when the globohomos couldn't keep up and everyone took pride in rerouting around censorship.
NNTP and IRC was the wild west and I loved it.
Old internet was fun. I remember back in the 90s playing a psychic in an MSN chat room. So many gullible eejits believed me.
Sounds like fun. Did you analyze according to the Zodiac too, just for hecks?
Nah, I relied on my "guides". Guides being the remarkable amount of information people gave away without knowing it.
Back in those days parents showed proper concern and drilled the realities of child predators into their children's heads.
Now parents just hand them over so they don't get cancelled.

Any tech sites were clearly taken over in the early 2000's. Seemed like within a year, they all went from apolitical to hard left.
Tis true. It was tolerable for me until sometime around 2015-17.
There's lots of us conservatives in tech and love tech.
ublock origin and pi-hole
Found this on ublock origin's base rule set

Wow. I had Adguard enabled on Samsung internet browser on my phone and was wondering the same thing. Thanks.
ublock origin EasyList is also blocking conservative sites.

Isn't Adguard Russian?
I love how they lump beforeitsnews in there, as if it's anything but a clickbait realrawnews type of site

Ok but Adguard's a real one for blocking BIN. That one is definitely a clickbait site 👌
Can you ask this question in the general chat post please?

It might get better visibility there and it's off topic here.
Not sure if it was this one, but Mike Mahoney has a series called Hidden Secrets of Money (see https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbApsokmGwAjgzriJYmGtesWxKPLH8aD6 ) it goes thru the whole "bread and circuses" stuff.
