There’s an old joke about human arrogance. One day a group of scientists got together and decided that humanity had come a long way and no longer needed God. So they picked one scientist to go and tell Him that they were done with Him. The scientist walked up to God and said, “God, we've decided that we no longer need you. We’re to the point where we can clone people, manipulate atoms, build molecules, fly through space, and do many other miraculous things. So why don’t you just go away and mind your own business from now on?” God listened very patiently and kindly to the man. After the scientist was done talking, God said, “Very well. How about this? Before I go, let’s say we have a human-making contest.” To which the scientist replied, “Okay, we can handle that!”

        “But,” God added, “we’re going to do this just like I did back in the old days with Adam.”

        The scientist nodded, “Sure, no problem” and bent down and picked up a handful of dirt. God wagged a finger at him and said, “Uh, uh, uh.  Put that down.  You go find your own dirt.”

They cannot do anything apart from God's creation, even they know that.

God will not be mocked.

Also wtf is the problem they're trying to solve for here? Especially when they constantly go on and on about over population.

Somewhat rhetorical since i think mostly likely it's because these are about to be a new slave class or military fodder. I guarantee it.

They've tried cloning already existing humans, but God will not be mocked. Those cloned humans never live past a few weeks, and I assume the same will be true for these "synthetic humans." They have no natural souls, they have no breath of God in them, they cannot sustain themselves. They will never fully integrate into society because God doesn't grant souls to these things, they can't survive.

Just imagine the nefarious applications of such human cloning. If you were to have sufficient money and resources to purchase a secure island location, hire enough sociopathic and morally flexible goons to ensure secrecy. Why, you could grow organs, sex slaves, clones of attractive celebrities, etc.

Remember when we all panicked at Dolly the cloned sheep?

Then Dolly aged over twice as fast as normal and died pretty quickly?

Huh. Remember the show Space: Above and Beyond? The “Chigs” were “synthetic human” adversaries.
