I don't know who needs to read this but I consider myself pretty tech savvy.. anyways they used my bank's phone number to call me after texting me that a fraudulent charge was made. The man that called acted like a representative for the bank and for sure had a very well written script. Things sounded fishy over the phone then they asked for my account info which I didn't provide. If you ever get a call about a bank charge, hang up and call the bank back using the number on your card or on their website (if it isnt hijacked). This kind of thing rarely happens to me so I thought it would be worth a share.

I often pretend to be a very old, hard of hearing dementia patient. I make them repeat everything very slowly and then ask them if they know Sally or whoever. It can be amusing to keep them on the phone until they realize they’re being had.
And then the swearing starts…lol.
I had one the other day. Man with a New York accent. I played along with him for my own amusement, and then he realized he was being had. He then told me to suck his balls. I told him he would love that because I have a small mouth and big teeth. Phone went silent for a second then he busts out laughing and someone else in the room with him was laughing too.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😁right?
Hilarious!
LOL
I just stick my phone in the port of my 10 inch subwoofer and crank the volume 🔊
Nice! I also just put the phone in front of whatever podcast I’m listening to atm…
👀👀
That could be a good opportunity to low-key red pill some people. I'm gonna start putting my phone up to X22Report 👌
"people"
LOL the swearing starts the second they realize they picked the wrong one.
Yup. I’ve never been cussed so well (creatively) and viscously than by a Middle Easterner who realizes he’s been duped.
Ah, you mean thick like treacle. Ugh!
Lol…
Damned auto correct.
I toy with every single one of them. The latest here in my area is spoofing one of the hospitals in the medical center.
Had it happened too. Navy Federal. Called my bank directly, stayed on the line during the hold and found the bank had not called about transactions that looked fraudulent.
yeppppp this
Even when it was legit, I hung up and called them with my own researched number. One lady got mad at me for it, but hey! Its not her account, so too bad.
Happened to me also Listened to message from Bank BUT went went to bank... Amazing how 'real' the scam was from voice-mail to Phone ID being depicted as Woodforrest...teller said 3 others had been in already that morning NEVER believe email or phone message!
Thanks fren.
Also happened to me in the UK.
The trash people they hire as “engineers” stole their databases and sell to others who are professional fraudsters.
Applies to banks, utility companies and others.
They know a lot of details when they call. They start making you worry, saying they’re protecting you, confirming the details they already know and then once they’ve built some trust they’re fishing for more information.
Banks shouldn’t ask questions as they have everything in their systems.
Nowadays, a lot of folks have the bank app on their phone. Tell them that you are going to log in and take care of the issue via the app. See what they say. You don't even have to have the app, just say you are going to check your accounts from there. If they let you off the phone, then it may be legit. If they don't, it is probably a scam. Report the number and any details about the caller and the information that they shared with you over the phone. This will help the bank track where the info came from and help others avoid the scam.
This has happened to me a few times. My caller id even says it's my bank.... kinda freaky. Fortunately, I've read enough of these scams like you've posted to be on the alert for any of it. Your advice to hang up and call the number on the back of your card is solid.
I get as many as 50 calls a day from scammers. At first I played around with them. Now I dont even answer the phone. Here's how I can tell its a scammer: 1- When you answer the robo-dial and say hello, they kick in and say hello as if I initiated the call (they expect me to say hello again). I say Oh youre from an Indian call center. Naturally they say no so I ask then why does this happen, I can hear all those people around you speaking in a foreign language...
2- Then the guy says 'this is Derek from blah-blah. How are you today'. With his heavy India accent I right out say 'I didnt know Indians used American fake names'. As for the how-are-you-today I say 'now since you asked, I had diarrhea all last night. In the bathroom shit just exploded, all over the toilet and back wall, farting like the 1812 Overture.....etc. Could it have been from the curry food I had yesterday?' This is especially effective if they said they were from Medicare Health Benefits company.
3-The guy that calls says he's from the electric company telling me I am due a $50 refund. He tells me to get my last electric bill so I say hold on, I gotta look for it. Then I just leave the phone on until he hangs up.
There are lots of computer geeks who screw the scammers like this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r895v2T9JyU
Remember, bona fide companies will email or mail a letter, not a phone call.
Well I screen 100% of all my calls. I only answer 2 numbers so I think I'll be safe.
I point out that this means that the crook knows where you bank. Do you use online banking? If so, that is probably why.
This happened to be a few years ago. They spoofed my child’s school! I thought there was an incident at school or my child was injured or sick. When I answered it, it was some idiot spammer.
I now check the number along with the caller ID but even those numbers are close to the original.
Better yet, take the time to drive in and talk in person.
I don't keep enough money in an account to worry about. I've never had a call like that. Most of my calls are "David" calling about my Medicare or Microsoft. I just burn their ears and hang up. I don't get nearly as many as I used to. :)
