How insulting is it that the good people of Maui pay 1000s of doIIars in tax a yr to get a stipend of 700 when shtf?
posted 2 years ago by Memesicus 2 years ago by Memesicus +135 / -0

Had the tax money been spent properly, the dmg would have been minimal. Without even any monetary compensation, why bother paying for something that doesn't work?

I know the people of Maui are very mad.

Good. Maybe, just maybe they will see the effects of decades of voting for libtards, how much they really don't care AT ALL about them and they support MAGA people instead.

Yes - it's a tragedy on multiple fronts. Yes - voting is f'd up for all of us, plus the uniparty nonsense. But LOCAL people need to be voted in for times like these where local issues need to be properly addressed.

Since they never miss an opportunity to add insult to injury - is the $700 taxable income? State? Federal? It'd be f'd up if they only netted $350.

Why pay more than you have to for an event you caused?

Probably costing them millions just to put those fences up and making sure no one goes into the burned lands and finds more evidence of their crimes.

Here's the Rub..... In order to get that $700 the amount of paperwork they have to sign is similar to a closing at a bank for a mortgage. I will not spill the beans here BUT someone from there that has experienced the paperwork and may actually still have their copy should come on here and post that crap. There's a few suspect clauses, but, I'm stopping there because I cannot post and prove myself as I'm not there and not involved.

Also.... Since this is FEDERAL funds it has to be made public how much was handed out. You may be surprised at how low, very low, that number is. Some suggest it's because people are hesitant to sign an agreement, others are saying nobody is left to come get the money. Hmmm

They've been told for decades that all of their problems are due to those horrible haoles. That kind of programming doesn't get undone quickly, although events like what happened in Maui should speed things up.

It's a deliberate insult. Give them next to nothing and laugh while we give hundreds of billions of dollars to the money-laundering and WMD biolab capital of the world.

The problem is that TOO many people expect the Federal government to come to the rescue, whether from a natural disaster (or manmade disaster), or a company's financial disaster. When hurricane Camille wiped out major parts of MS and LA back in the early 1960's, it was the local people and private groups/organizations that helped the people recover, not the Federal government. This is how it should be, but perhaps is no longer possible because over time, they have made the country (citizens and businesses) become dependent on the Federal government in far too many ways.

Sometimes I feel like I'm in Bizzaro World here.

Aren't we supposed to be against people expecting the government to bail them out all the time?

And it's weird to see people here (not necessarily in this conversation, but on the board) complain that it's impossible for anyone to make money , and that it's the government's fault that people are poor.

Where were all these people during the Great Recession when libs were demanding increasing the minimum wage and wanting mandatory living wages? All I remember is being told to pull myself up by my bootlaces when I dared to complain I wasn't making enough money.

Sometimes I see things being said here that would be something a lib would say. It's very weird.

I am pretty sure the attitude that the government should do more, even by "conservatives", is most likely held by people under 50, who have been subject to the leftist education system, in coordination with leftist "news" their whole lives. Those of us over 60 were fortunate enough to make it through public school before they were totally corrupted by leftists. To those of you under 50 who have been able to keep a clear head in regard to how much the Federal government should be involved with; congratulations. To those others, please bone up on American history and consider what you were "taught" in public school, and what you have been fed by leftist media.

To be fair, we are also supposed to be against taxation as well so if we didn't have taxation, people wouldn't expect the taxes to go back to their communities

We've always had taxation, though. In our lifetimes, I mean.

But this whole attitude of expecting the government to bail us out of everything has been fairly new. For conservatives, anyway.

But surely they don’t still pay property taxes every month on a burned down house. Right? Right?

"Never let a crisis go to waste."

While the Fed is "offering" $700 per Maui household, they want BILLIONS more for Ukraine. And if they don't get the billions, Maui won't get the (est.) two million.
