they still hear you...
and by now they probably
have a sensor in the screen
that senses your image even
when seemingly shut down...
you know how these wily folks
are..by the time they show you something they already have10 to100x
better by then
Yeah, sure, but they would already be able to do that with or without control over your PC's microphone or camera or a hidden camera inside of your PC.
It's also very ineffective to anyone who will take 5 minutes to learn how to build their own.
But that’s my point. The cameras and mics on these devices have become “nice to have”s for the surveillance state. They are waaaay beyond needing them.
Irrelevant and terrible analog. Techtubers performing teardowns and finding cameras and such is an apolitical thing; the anti Trump establishment was wholly political, and people were willing to subvert the law and justify every action possible whether they were paid to or not in order to attack Trump.
You can turn that feature off (on Android at least) - it gets bright to do facial recognition to unlock your phone. it's one of the first things I turned off.
Didn't the FBI even say to do this years ago? Due to hackers (and school staff activating these in kids bedrooms)?
Electrical tape all around. I'd even put it on the front facing cameras on my phone/tablets. Unless you have kids and grandkids and do facetime or whatever. See, you let your guard down and now the govm't owns you. FML.
Hardware slides are still a loose standard, but fortunately many laptops (and actual webcams, but those are easier to deal with) are including those.
Also, hardware switches that physically sever the connections of the microphone are the best as well, not that you have the ability to do this on phones or laptops.
It only takes 1 video conference with somebody in their pajamas to learn--- post its and black tape adorned all my coworkers cameras afyer thatvq meeting...LOL
If your laptop and phone aren't watching you, your car, someone else's car, the traffic cameras, your neighbors cameras, your strangers cameras, and everyone else's cameras are.
Always listening too. Just mention something, you don’t even have to have searched online for the subject or item, next thing my phone gets a pop up ad in my email. 24/7 eyes & ears surveillance on us, we the “free”.
Correct. And many wholeheartedly embrace it. Amazon echos for the kids! An Amazon Echo Studio for me! Hands free driving, i.e. voice control (listening in) features to keep your hands on the wheel. For your SaFeTy!
Somehow people let any given explanation do the job to explain this away, but I can only think "creepy" and have frustration about it.
You can deGoogle Android, but you can't deGoogle an iPhone or a television.
Worst thing is that it's pretty extralegal right now because you are in a somewhat binding agreement just by using a product -- which is dumb, because for some reason digital products are the only ones that can do this.
The government just successfully outsources it to third parties, then either buys or forcibly takes the data through well established backdoors (a la iOS, but everyone is delusional if they think that Apple is the only one with a government backdoor).
I don't let my phone connect to my car, but other family have and now I've heard snippets of phone conversations and their playlists when I pull up to their houses.
Printers is general suck. I have never had a printer that worked longer than 3 months before all connections seemed to fail and troubleshooting was a full time job. HP, Canon, Brother, I think I've tried all the Big Tech brands. All are fake and gay and designed to break so you spend half your budget to print a receipt.
Epson EcoTank is decent. No cartridges, you just fill reservoirs in the printer directly with ink and I haven't had any issues with the hardware at all so far.

I've been putting a piece of electrical tape over the lens on my laptops ever since they started putting cameras in them.
Just bought a new desktop(all in one) and it comes with a small slide that goes over the camera. I thought, well, it took them long enough.

Too many techtubers do the teardown of these sorts of things; they literally wouldn't be able to implement that.
Hiding inaccessible code that could, say, activate microphones or cameras would be much easier.
They don’t need the camera. They can just use the WIFI to know where you are in your home, what you are doing, etc.

Oh for sure, that's what being attached to phones chock full of telemetry is for
Just like the massive security flaws in electronic voting machines were revealed by hackers a decade ago, so dems are unable to use them to cheat.

My phone flashes a full brightness screen when I wake it - I think to photograph me, now I turn it away to switch on.

As nickdallaslight says, it's a feature to allow the front camera to do facial biometrics in a dark environment.
You can turn it off.

Same after a new laptop camera light periodically turned itself on with no aps running.

We need thicker houses, right? /s 😋
Thankfully, Trump and the Q team will end that once he returns to power.
...Right?
They can watch you through the camera, the screen and/or the screen border.
I ditched HP years ago. Still haven't found a decent printer though. Especially for photo printing. 😭

Yeah.. and the pages they force you to print just to set stuff up! Ugh

Is there any cases that have a physical shutter for the camera?
