In 1965, Charles Schulz, a devout Christian and creator of the Peanuts comic strip, was asked to create a Christmas special for CBS featuring the Peanuts Characters. He agreed with one requirement, that they allow him to include the story of the birth of Jesus. Although the stations executives were hesitant and tried to convince him otherwise, Schulz was insistent. As a result, for the past 50 plus years, millions of people have watched and "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and heard the story of Jesus and "what Christmas is all about."
It wasn't until a few ears back that I realized a "hidden message" in the film. Linus, a child who seems to have some insecurities as he carries a security blanket with him at all times. In fact, Linus NEVER drops his blanket, except once While sharing the message of "what Christmas is all about " Linus drops his blanket at the exact moment he says the words, "fear not!"
In this seemingly innocent moment, Linus delivers a powerful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. We are to "fear not", for Jesus is born. We needn't rely on material things for security, we have God with us, "Immanuel" (Matthew 1:23) Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior - the true meaning of Christmas.
Awhile back, someone informed me, indignantly so, that Linus picks up his blanket at the end of the speech so my interpretation must be wrong. Well, he was right, Linus does pick up his blanket at the end of his speech. However, he "drops" it again later...
Amid big, bright, colorful, shiny artificial trees, Charlie Brown chose the least of these, a little, wooden tree with just a few branches. Shortly thereafter, Linus uses his blanket to wrap about the base of the tree and says, "Mavbe it iust needs a little love" In that moment. the tree "awakens" stands tall and firm. A reminder that no matter who we are, how many mistakes we've made, "a little love" can make all the difference . Let's strive to "fear not" (Luke 2:10) and "love one another" (John 13:34), not just at Christmastime, but the whole year through.

In middle school I played Linus in the school play...has to memorize that monologue...terrifying being on stage as a kid with a relatively long speech to make! Apparently I lived through it all.
Apparently and I bet you will NEVER forget your lines...and what a beautiful passage to memorize...😊...
Omg. I played Lucy! I remember running around the stage saying…”Ugh! I was kissed by a dog! Get some disinfectant!”
That’s awesome! Blonde Lucy!!!
I had a blanket and everything...was pretty crazy being alone on stage with the spot light on me...I still enjoy seeing the show every year. Hopefully we’ll get to see it even though Amazon is hoarding it.
Merry Christmas Lucy!!
Good memories right :) I'm sure you played the part well!
Agreed. Nice memories.
Next time I come across something like this i will post it in Weekly Chat
A FAVORITE!
Thanks for your wonderful post! 🌟
The Charlie Brown shows may be the only exposure to jazz people get :) I don't know what effect it had on me all those decades ago, but jazz is pretty much the only music genre I listen to now.
Who doesn't recognize one of the most iconic theme songs EVER?

Here’s a jazzy version with David Benoit.

Nice variation...thanks for sharing...
That's a really nice take on it! I'll be looking for it when I watch the cartoon this season.
Apple bought the rights to this special so it will not be aired on regular television this year. Coincidence? I doubt it. It will be available one day for streaming on a laptop tablet or phone, etc. I think December 16-17. In other words, they don't want anyone to watch it.
Well, I guess it's amazing that it HAD been aired every year until now (apparently been off air for a few years) One of the biggest proofs that Christianity is the true faith, is the opposition to it from virtually every aspect of modern society.
Two days, actually. But you'll STILL need an Apple ID, something I do not have, being an open source kind of guy. For subscribers, it's available at all times.
That's why years ago, I bought the DVDs featuring Halloween (I got a rock) as well as Christmas (That's what Christmas is all about) so I wouldn't be denied a part of my (and my kids') childhood.
We bought the DVD so we can watch it anytime several years ago
Not sure when apple bought the rights to the peanuts collection, but it hasn’t been available on network television for at least a couple of years. I’m sure there is some profit to be made from streaming, but it really feels that the goal is to keep the story of Jesus off of your TV.
Good dig. The beast # ad was from 1976, eight years before the Big Brother Super Bowl ad.
Can you imagine how much one of those is worth today? (that $666.66 price seems a little too coincidental though, doesn't it? Wouldn't it have made more sense to have it priced at $669.95 or some other "regular" price?)
It looks more like Isaac Newton sitting under his proverbial gravity apple. But I dunno, kinda fuzzy to tell.
66.6 is in all kinds of things. The average temperature for the human body is 66.6 degrees above freezing on the fahrenheit scale.
The entire fahrenheit scale was setup so that 66.6 could be used for the human body. So either Mr Fahrenheit did this on purpose or something was working through Fahrenheit to make that happen.
Symbolism will be their downfall.
Many thanks for sharing this lovely, uplifting, wholesome and touching story. Makes a nice change.
To this day, I look for the tree that Charlie Brown would have come home with
I’m not crying, you’re crying.
This is lovely thank you for sharing
Good stuff! 👍
Jesus, we trust in you!
Beautiful! Something I never knew.

beautiful
I've been amazed they still run that special, after all these years! (they'll probably keep airing it earlier in the year to the point it competes with the World Series :) )
The Music is great as well.
A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS - COMPLETE SOUNDTRACK- VINCE GUARALDI TRIO
https://www.bitchute.com/video/TlCaikbqJjFL/
A Charlie Brown Christmas is the eighth studio album by American jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi (later credited to the Vince Guaraldi Trio). The album was released in December 1965 in the U.S. by Fantasy Records and was Guaraldi's final studio album for the label. It is the soundtrack to the Christmas television special of the same name.
Guaraldi was contacted by television producer Lee Mendelson to compose music for a documentary on the comic strip Peanuts and its creator, Charles M. Schulz. Although the special went unaired, these selections were released in 1964 as Jazz Impressions of A Boy Named Charlie Brown. Coca-Cola commissioned a Christmas special based on Peanuts in 1965 and Guaraldi returned to score the special.
Guaraldi composed most of the music, though he included versions of traditional carols such as "O Tannenbaum". He recorded some of the score at Whitney Studio in Glendale, California, then re-recorded some of it at Fantasy Records Studios in San Francisco with a children's choir from St. Paul's Episcopal Church in nearby San Rafael. The sessions ran late into the night, with the children rewarded with ice cream afterward.
Bassist Fred Marshall and drummer Jerry Granelli were credited as performing on the album. It was voted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress.
On May 10, 2022, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album quintuple platinum for sales of 5 million copies. In November 2014, it was the 10th best-selling Christmas/holiday album in the United States during the SoundScan era.
Absolutely!
I've never actually seen this cartoon lol
You should make it an appointment to, it would be well worth it
Thank you for sharing this! LOVE IT 🌲
My favorite of all the Christmas shows AND, OR COURSE, not being shown on any channels here in So Ca - they pulled it from regular viewership right after C started
This is beautiful.❤️
Very good! I never noticed about Linus dropping the blanket. What I also love about the Charlie Brown Christmas Special is that Schulz also criticizes Santa Claus and his impact on the materialism his idea ingrains into children. "All I want is what I have coming to me. All I want is my fair share," says Sally. And Schulz was also criticizing the over-commercialization of Christmas. He died in 2000 before he could see what a nightmare Black Friday has become.
Thanks for the share fren! I printed this out as a good conversation piece for the family this coming Christmas...
Sweet story. That was a great episode that often brought a tear to my eye.
