ICE cars have been getting more reliable and efficient for decades, providing safety and more convenience for the consumer. "Electron guzzlers" have reversed that trend - higher initial cost, faster depreciation, higher insurance and repair bills, range limitations, hunting for working chargers, hot and cold weather degradation, thermal runaway fires. Aside from virtue signaling at the Starbucks drive-thru, what good are they?
Talked to a guy yesterday that bought a Rivian for $88k because he thought he could flip it for a profit. He’s had it listed for sale for a few months (now listed at less than he paid) and hasn’t gotten one single bite. Ouch.
According to the person from Edmunds being interviewed in the pbs article, EV sales are still increasing, but not at the same rate. In other words, enthusiasm is waning. She downplays issues of auto manufacturers backing off production of EVs (as the interviewer in the pbs article asked her and the Breitbart article describes) and instead advocates for the government (aka our tax dollars) to increase spending on infrastructure to support EVs. I'm wondering if or when insurance companies will start increasing homeowner premiums for those who keep their EV in their garage (vs, say, twenty yards away, and not near anything else flammable) or even those who just own them, period.
Anecdotally, an ultra liberal friend of mine who owns one recently proclaimed to me that gasoline-powered vehicles will be phased out within the next decade or two. (Chuckle).
I don't mind having an EV. I've never charged at home and I can charge for free at work. I'm not claiming to save the environment either. It saves me money and that's why I do it.
Someone need to start up a new car company which produces a vehicle that gets 40 mpg, can seat 4 easily, and only costs $10k. If they could do that and turn a profit they would sell a zillion units, even if they looked like Russian 1960's knockoff cars.
All they have to do is take a normal car and strip out all of the non-essential junk manufacturers like to put in. The benefit is, the less you put in a car, the less you have to fix.
Usually "when the music stops" refers to SHTF; are you referring to that, or as your links suggest; are you referring to when EV's generally cease to be produced because they can't even give them away.....?
I'm sure you probably saw, but look up what happened to EV owners in the midwest with this latest bout of storms.
Lots of people learned the hard way that EV's are severely negatively impacted by the cold, as well as even their ability to charge......
Virtually every EV Charging station in much of the midwest became a graveyard / dumping ground for EVs that were literally stopped dead by the cold.
Such progress! So enviro-friendly! Much awesomeness.
"Market conditions" eh? That's a polite way of saying "no one wants that EV crap."
Also how many can even afford a new car of any kind right now?
Ding. Ding. Ding. Rates are up, cars (like houses) just got a lot more expensive if you are not paying cash.
If interest rates on auto loans are anywhere near mortgage rates.......😯😯
What ARE car loan rates these days?
Kinda like the roll out of "Obamacare"?
"the people have spoken"
Didn't mercedes lose a cargo ship full of cars due to an electric vehicle fire?
If they didn't, they should have.
😂😂👍👍
Look on the bright side -- at least the batteries won't catch on fire now.

I recently bought an ICE car, manual gearbox in July 2023. Integra, love this thing
New? I had a 1988 Acura Integra with 5 spd manual...awesome fun car and lasted great.
I had a 1990 Honda LX 5 speed.....still running great in 2011 when I sold it in Colorado. It was a stellar car..
The 2024 Integra Type S. I had to as I used to have 2000 Integra LS. Love this car though
I was wondering if manual shift cars were still being made. Mine is a 2005 Honda coupe. Have always driven a stick.
Try the new civic or Integra manual gearboxes. You’ll fall in love again
Ah, no money.....and I kind of like the less tech in a car. Hoping my car lasts a good while longer.

A fool and his money...

PBS = Public Bull 💩
My hoard of $500 beaters is gonna be worth a fortune
Just like the people who took the jab, they'll be SOL.
some teslas look ok... rip out the electric junk and do a twin-turbo LS swap! better yet... a nice duramax!
Go from electric to rolling coal? Hahahahahaha
Sounds good to me.
Black smoke billowing from the back of a Tesla would make a great commercial.
I wouldn't mind swapping in an LS into a Tesla after removing all the electric crap. Already been done multiple times.
I know, I know👋🏻. Their battery died😂🤣😂

They gather around the EV camp fire to stay warm.

Scrap the EV's, Benz!
