The point of tariffs is to keep money local. I can spend $25 on a tv and that money goes to a Chinese manufacturer. That money becomes part of the Chinese local economy.
Now, if that same manufacturer starts making TVs down the street because the now $50 tv (at 100% tariff) builds to avoid the tariff, you've employed people. That money helps your neighbors, flowing through your economy instead of another country's economy.
And, with competition, the TVs built locally won't stay $50, either.
And, helping to afford this in the short term, would be abolition of the income tax.
But, no, lets keep the system of usury and replacement going. I'm sure a race to the cheapest labor force for the elites will work out swimmingly for the middle class.
