Ever go to the post office recently? It’s like a government religious temple. I notice the place is usually packed with minorities and foreign hoards, I use UPS unless for forced to use usps. Had some eastern euro trash cut the line about getting a passport for their fucking anchor baby, go home fucks. The only reason I was in there was because I am required BY LAW to send certified mail for certain business purposes.
They should charge junk mail a proper price ---- instead of having us subsidize it with our grocery money.
You would think junk mail would be the first thing the green movement got rid of. Oh, silly me. The green movement isn’t green.
factor into the "price of the stamp" ------ the wasted time sorting through junk mail
The USPS is garbage for the landfill distribution system --- not environmental.
Have you been at the immigration services lately? I was there with my sister because she needed her new passport to be expedited and all the people who is working there, all from other countries. I was very upset knowing all these anchor babies were getting their passports plus their parents.
Gotta pay out those ridiculous pensions for the DNC crooks...
You know I'm not that old but I do remember a 5 cent stamp. This is just ridiculous. One can't even afford to send out Christmas cards anymore.
I can top that. When I was a kid, stamps were 3 cents.
Yes. I remember that too. My mother may she RIP went berserk when they went from 3 to 5 cents.
It was 15 cents for me, and you could tape the nickel and dime to the envelope. The mailman would put the stamp on for you.
My grandmother used to do that. Sometimes she would leave money in the box with a note, NEED A BOOK OF STAMPS, and he would take the money and bring her back a book the next day. That's what you call trusting.
And a 10 cent payphone.
Some are not old enough to even remember a pay phone period. I don’t think I’ve seen one in at least 25-30 yrs. There were two that I remember in my town but they’ve been gone for a long time.
My son has a friend he did some construction on his house and that's how they met. He and his Mom are from New York. Last month her family contacted her and told her there was an inside Office Building LOBBY pay phone if she wanted it or the building owner was going to have it sent to the dump. So she asked how much, sent them the money and had a family member deliver it to her here in Kentucky. My son took a picture of it. It is all in good condition with the brown wood and glass door complete with wooden bench and the payphone. She has it in the corner of her living room. Absolutely beautiful and in A1 condition. A piece of nostalgic history. NO she is not going to have the phone hooked up.
They were all around my town, but my town is one of the oldest in the country so I guess that makes sense.
I don't believe a single one remains. Which is of course problematic if you do not have a functioning cellphone and need assistance.
The only place I see pay phones nowadays is at the airport.
Yes indeed.
I remember too. AND... I quit sending Christmas cards about 4 years ago. Just too expensive when I used to mail about 25 a year.
Deliver the mail 3 days per week M, W, Sat.
And shut down the scanning system that logs everything. USPS is a feeder of raw data into the USIC for conversion into intelligence. USPS is asshoe.

My daughter gets an email every day with a photo attachment of every piece of mail they put in her box. Why??? She does not see this as anything odd and is not concerned about privacy. Bizarre!

I know, I showed this to her before and my daughter said she requested it!! She sold a business and moved out of state and said she wanted to track all the correspondence and the PO told her about it so she signed up. Now she said she likes it so she knows whether to make a trip to pick up mail. She said she is not a criminal so doesnt care it all goes in a data bank somewhere. At least she votes Republican but damn!!
My wife signed up for this service at our old house, just a tenth of a mile down the road. This was about three years ago, but she never informed the postal service to shut down the Informed Delivery for that address. To this day she still gets notifications of mail received by the new owners. We see their water bill and how late they are paying it. We see all of the letter mail they receive. Quite informative, if we were the FBI or some other law enforcement agency.. I can see our neighbors mail without even getting a court order! Be careful out there, pedes.
I encourage everybody to use the USPS for mailing and postage needs. Your patronage will keep my pension funded! The problem is NOT the postal service's....it belongs to Congress. Why? Because the Postal Service could be financially stable with lower rates, but whenever the Postal Service gains a huge cushion of funds the Congress always comes in and steals that money and thus the cost of postage goes up. Also, the legacy costs are way high, they pay for my retirement and monthly health care premiums. Add to that, new hires get a base hourly salary of $20.50. Not bad for a kid out of high school who can barely read or write, huh? The overtime, double time and night differential adds costs that most folks don't understand. Then in addition the unions are constantly filing grievences and if they win, they usually get a huge financial pay out. This is intentional to keep the USPS in a dire financial situation! There are only four unions and every town has an office that employess one to four of these union personel. Thousands of class action grievences filed every year with millions of dollars paid out for simple acts. Now in the very near future the USPS will be purchasing a brand new fleet of carrier vehicles, with air conditioning, and that will cost hundreds of millions of dollars. Yes, they are needed because the boxy LLV's are over 30 years old. Waste and inefficiency are the norms in the Postal Service, yet I think Trump will somehow force the unions to act nice with management and their recklessness will come to an end and the USPS will be on a solid financial footing.
A good start would be to go to 3-4 days per week delivery. My old neighbor was a GS-15 who ran Brentwood facility, DC (anthrax). Kudos to the guys that drive the roads and stick the mail in the boxes, but there is a lot of shady shit that goes on in the USPS that needs a good smack of DOGE applied. And then there is the intelligence collection going on with the scanning/sorting systems...
3-4 day a week delivery sounds good, but the execution would be filled with problems, first and foremost is space in the vehicle for two days worth of mail. Even if they had minivans the sheer amount of packages would be prohibitive. Add on top of that ten+ trays of letter mail and it would be too much for a van to hold. Sorry, but its very hard to cram mail into a LLV the day after a Holiday. Now you'd be having at least 100 "holidays" and our system isn't set up for that. It would break the system and then we'd need a complete overhaul and that would cost ooodles and booodles of money. I hate to be a negative nellie, but the reality is quite different than good logical ideas.
Interesting perspective. I had not thought of it from that angle.
Make junk mail pay full price ----- problem solved
no bulk discounts
I sell on eBay and use the USPS all the time, so, you’re welcome. I usually spend $2-3k a year with them. The problem, I’m sure, as with anything government related is mismanagement and wasteful spending. It needs to be run by a businessman like Trump. If it was run properly, it could at least break even which is really all that’d be necessary.
This is Trumps idea. He said last term, they need to charge what it costs. I mean there’s a point where sure it may be too much but there is no reason to operate at a loss. Thanks for your service. Mail gotta move, baby!
I think USPS should stop doing last mile for packages. There's no way they're being paid properly by UPS/FedEx/Amazon etc. for last mile delivery.
But at the end of the day, USPS is only a fraction of the issues with government spending and I do not necessarily believe it should be the first one addressed by far.
Also ridiculous water charges. Actually its not even cost of the water, which is not that bad but service charges - my actual water usage is like 8 to 12 dollars or so, but 110 dollars as service charges. Make it make sense! Btw, I am in commifornia.
Fly over in ohio...23 bucks a month city water
Got my property tax bill, didn't even send a postage payed envelope...that's how I found out...
USPS is awful! I mail checks to my independent contractors twice a month and it’s seems just about every month one of the 9 or 10 I mail never get to the person.
At my office, I don’t get mail for days, especially when the regular guy takes time off, the temp doesn’t even bother.
It’s mostly junk mail anyway. I don’t see why we can’t get rid of them altogether and use existing commercial delivery vendors. It could not possibly cost more.
u/floridafrog did you add it to the official list of requests/suggestions yet?

I'd like to see JUNK MAIL eliminated. Every week USPS puts TRASH in my mailbox. I never signed up for it and can't opt out. Neither can anyone else - Yeah you can "window dress" and fill out a form that does absolutely nothing.
It's a TOTAL RACKET and we're all tired of it!!! FU and your bs furniture ads and other crap we'll NEVER buy!
Imagine how many trees are wasted on this crap... and fuel... and landfill etc .
There are SO MANY things we as a society need to reel in, reevaluate and eliminate. God I hate stupidity...
Amen to that --- save the trees ----- save the landfills ----- save my time.
Why not just round it off to the nearest 5 cents? The post office has been doing that for years. Dumb as hell.
I sell on Poshmark. Everything ip to 5 lbs for 7.99. I'm sure other firms have similar desls. BTW, i love my post office
Enjoying my forever stamp stash for the few items that require mailing!
mine ran out 2 years ago...
It pains me to use them, makes me consider if it really has to be mailed.
My wife is in direct mail. We have a metric shitton of forever stamps.
USPS is the ONLY carrier that has constitutional protections on your mail. There's a reason they're running it into the ground.
[They] don't want you to have privacy or freedom. They want you paying UPS or FedEx.
One this benefits their "partners" and investments. Two UPS or FedEx will roll right over and give the government any information they want. USPS they gotta have a warrant.
My local yokel postmaster and apparently many of the workers are now people whose first language is not English. 🤨
During one of their increases I believe 33 cents I bought a sheet of one cent stamps and covered the envelope front and back..they had to hand cancel each one
Its simple… end the sweetheart deal USPS gave Amazon… stamps would drop by 50%
That is the fucking worst delivery system on the planet if you get a package on Sunday, boxes ripped, pieces stolen.
