Our local mail travels 220 miles before being delivered back here in town. With that going on, there’s no wonder that it’s a losing proposition. Any changes to the system will help, possibly modernize the entire system.

Logistics of any shipping company seem pretty weird lately.
The postal unions should never be allowed to be involved in politics of any kind as long as there are mail in ballots.
And postal workers should never be allowed any political actions while on duty.
He should sic the DOGE on it. Privatizing mail service is what countries do when they want to urbanize and stop small towns from growing into large towns. It screws up utilizing rural areas and is straight out of the playbook of the biggest WEF countries.

Remember when there was neither rain, nor snow, nor heat, nor hail? Well, now it's sorta when we feel like it--for awhile we were lucky to get a delivery five days a week. Things are a little better at the moment, knock on wood.
When I was a wee lad, we got mail twice a day and I think it cost a nickel for first class. All the dogs loved the mailman. He would walk the block and there would be fifteen dogs following along. One day, a substitute carried the mail. He pepper sprayed the dogs. My humble, mild-mannered, sainted mother tore him a new one. He never came back.
Its not supposed.to make money. Rain sleet or snow.
Right. It needs massive reform and then be allowed to change prices and services to keep itself current.
USPS can’t change prices without congressional approval nor can they for example charge a gas surcharge like ups does when gas prices skyrocket. They can’t offer more services like when it was suggested that you could enable post offices to do banking for rural customers.
It’s a classic case of the govt not allowing simple fixes to a problem that is so rampant within the system
But they sure as hell can buy billions of dollars worth of electric vehicles.
Once again talk to Congress about that.
It's only failing bc congress has made so many mandates on it. Let it go free to do what it has to and unrestricted and don't privatize it

Yes, most people have no idea the restrictions placed on the post office.
What would privatization look like?
I don't have all of the answers. But it would definitely involve reforming the benefits. Pre funding 70 years of benefits is insane. Probably transition from some kind of pension to a 401K.
But beyond that I'm at a loss. People like flat pricing for regular mail, and universal delivery to every address in America.
Would each post office be run by the lowest bidder contractor? What about the sorting facilities?
Worked for a company that was asked to consult and propose fixes for USPS.
They were asked to do this twice, as if after a couple of years, something had changed.
This company specializes in helping analyze all small package traffic and help companies strategically locate warehouses in order to reduce shipping cost and time, direct data feeds off FedEx, UPS, etc. Very trusted in what they do by both sides.
Determined that USPS hadn’t really updated since 50’s/60’s.
Infrastructure so old that they were instructed that the only real way to update was to scrap everything and rebuild.
You have to absolutely wonder where all of the money goes.
USPS deserves to die. Pay their employees way too much for what amounts to unskilled labor.
Next look into the subsidies for Amtrack.
FJB was the only govt official keeping them around. Bye Joe. Bye Amtrak.

I hope he does privatize it. Maybe then the cost of stamps and shipping will decrease and we can mail packages and cards at Christmas that don't cost us an arm and a leg. They were making money until Amazon and Ebay got on board with all their shipping and stuff. I don't know if it's changed any, but perhaps those companies should provide their own shipping companies and do it at a regular cost instead of undercutting the Postal Service.
Just like Elon pointed out about the government as a whole, the computers at the post office are dinosaurs. Those need to get addressed before accurate accounting can be done.
