Tourists that plan to stay that extended period of time that need to apply for a visa should also put up a bond.
If I had to guess most tourists that visit the USA stay a few days, weeks or not even a month tops. So losing a bond isn't a concern for those people that stay for a short period of time.
But in fairness I can see how it may deter some tourists so you do have a valid point.
For many countries, you need a visa to just enter the US legally, even for just a day.
For someone from South Africa like u/purkiss88 will need to put down R270,000 as a bond, which is quite a bit more than a year's income for the average South African.
People just loving it, without thinking that proposal through! Many people visit the US, for one or two weeks on their vacations. Many do not have $15,000 dollars, in their bank account. Many take out loans to go to the US! Common sense needs to be used to prevent their overstay! Why give someone, who clearly states, that they are only visiting for two weeks, a 6 month window to stay? Passing legislation for this suggestion would hurt the US tourism industry and accepting only the wealthy to visit, will undermine the narrative that is being proposed in the plan!
Many Western countries and developed nations are part of the Visa Waiver Program. If you’re one of 38 countries on the Visa Wavier Program list, then you do not need a visa to visit the United States in most situations; instead, you can apply for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Your ESTA can be completed online in minutes and requires much less work than a visa.
Unless you run into one of the very many exceptions. Eligibility for ESTA is not automatic.
This bond is a terrible idea. We're a family of four - think I'm going to pony up 40k USD just to take my kids on a vacation to Dismaland? Not that I would anymore having figured out how crap it is. But huge amounts of people every year who do.
I get that you have racial problems in America. But slamming the door on all foreigners is taking things too far.
That means that only rich people can bring a spouse or fiancé. In both cases the American spouse has to make 125% of poverty line for whatever size family you are going to be. You also have to file of an affidavit of support and the government will come after you if the person you bring gets any government benefits. That AOS only gets canceled if the spouse pays into SS 10 years or becomes a citizen.
A fiancé visa, 3 months to marry or be booted out, and the AOS does not expire on divorce. It was a pain in the ass bringing my wife here legally and Immigration treated us badly. Also you need a lot of proof you are a real married couple. I'll write a post about it soon.
As a white Christian man from Europe, there was a time I dreamed of moving to the US, but it was way too hard to get a visa. In recent years USA literally turned into an absolute shit hole (drugs everywhere, crime, PC, LGBT, etc.) I wouldn't come if they paid me $15K.
But just FYI to the retards that though of this... illegals migrants and criminals don't fucking get visas... you'll only just make it harder for honest people to come 🤡
A state department spokesperson told Reuters that countries would be selected based on “high overstay rates, screening and vetting deficiencies, concerns regarding acquisition of citizenship by investment without a residency requirement, and foreign policy considerations”
The bonds would be issued to visitors from countries with significant overstay rates, under a 12-month pilot program.
A bond can be financed, true, but I wonder whether this is symbol politics instead of an actual solution.
Let's first start with acting according to the law and see what happens, shall we? It is quite possible and probable that the main drivers of illegal immigration melt away.
I support this plan 100%
Make it retroactive too, if they are here, make them pony up 15k to continue with their visa.
lol
They can check out any time they like but can never leave (until they pay up).
As nice of a thought as that would be, retroactive laws are (usually) illegal.
It is ridiculous. How many tourists that come to the US has $15,000 to put up as bond? I get the idea, but tourism will come to a screeching halt.
Tourists that plan to stay that extended period of time that need to apply for a visa should also put up a bond.

We don't have racial problems (other than the progs trying to make racism great again), we have turd world problems.
That is a positive development and a good first step.

I'm ok with it at least certain visas...

No prob, the Dims just issue another $15k EBT card to illegal to cover it.
I voted for this!
Nice and love it.
