At my high school in the 70’s guys had shot gun racks mounted across the rear window of their trucks with guns on them They came to school with guns in plain sight and nobody thought anything about it.
And nearly everyone carried a pocket knife.
Many had large knives on their belts at my school. The girls had pocket knives.
And in shop classes we built weapons. Beautiful but deadly knives swords, medieval stuff. Nobody blinked an eye. You can’t turn a bat on a lathe these days even if you can find a lathe.
No clue how to use one, but my brother has my dad's lathe lol

It was like that at my high school in Montana and this was early 90s.
And none of these boys had purple hair or nose rings. I'm also pretty confident they knew they were boys and which bathroom to use.
And they said the pledge of allegiance and knew God & Jesus.
I was on the college rifle team. We did have to check our target rifles out of the arms room.

Nobody shot anybody.
Because they weren't on psychiatric drugs.
My Texas high school in 1983 had JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) and they had a shooting range in the basement.
Our range was in an antechamber next to the teacher’s lounge. Yes, we made some warped jokes.
My high school in San Francisco had a rifle team in the 1980s. They checked rifles out of the JROTC armory and practiced on the JROTC range.

My father went to a one room country school in Nova Scotia in the late 50's and all the boys would bring their shotguns to school and place them in the coat room so they could go duck hunting right after school.
Now they can’t bring guns, nor go into the woods. Ironic.
