Dmitriev reacted to Ukraine’s sanctions against him in a sarcastic Telegram post, calling the measures one of two “awards” he had received over the weekend.
Unlike ABC, CBS, NBC, etc., the BBC is funded by taxing the citizens. It is in effect the British Government. [THEY], our supposed allies, helped to try to overthrow our elected government.
“The principal means of funding the BBC is through the television licence, costing £169.50 per year per household as of April 2024.” Wikipedia
To date the Brits can opt out of paying the fee. We Germans cannot do that at all.
But there is a new proposal to close that loophole:
Brave: "bbc opt out fees"
The BBC licence fee is under significant scrutiny, with proposals to reform its funding model ahead of the 2027 Royal Charter review. The current fee is set to rise to £174.50 annually, and a new means-tested system has been suggested, where the cost would depend on a household's property value and be collected alongside council tax, potentially eliminating the option to opt out entirely.
This shift is driven by concerns over the current model's fairness and enforcement, with the BBC's chairman, Samir Shah, advocating for a progressive structure to reduce the burden on lower-income households and remove the criminal offence status of non-payment.
Meanwhile, the departure of BBC Director-General Tim Davie has intensified calls to scrap the licence fee, with political figures warning it is a "last chance" to reform the broadcaster's funding.
The standard annual BBC licence fee is currently £174.50, with a proposed overhaul linking the cost to property value and collecting it with council tax.
Under the new means-tested proposal, households would no longer be able to opt out of paying the fee, marking a significant change from the current system.
The BBC's chairman, Samir Shah, has dismissed a Netflix-style subscription model, arguing it would not meet the BBC’s public service remit of serving all audiences.
The current system allows for exemptions and discounts, including free licences for those over 75 who receive Pension Credit, and a 50% discount for registered blind individuals.
While the BBC currently does not charge for non-BBC on-demand services like Channel 4 On Demand or ITVX, viewers must still inform TV Licensing if they do not require a licence to avoid prosecution.
The average annual increase over the past 12 months has been 3.15%, which would push the fee to £179.99 if applied.

Right now it feels like sitting through a more boring One Piece.
For those unaware, the anime One Piece has been airing one episode a week continuously since 1999 and has over one thousand episodes.
I'm not a fan. I much prefer shows that tell their story in a concise manner and stick with it, like Neon Genesis Evangelion or Princess Tutu (just 26 episodes each). I think the longest one I ever loved was Sailor Moon (200 episodes exactly).
I said the same about 2001 A Space Odyssey the first time I saw it. But I was only 16 or 17 and still too stupid to understand. I has become much better😒

Why do the Russians not seem offended by Trump's sanctions and actions still supporting Ukraine?
I think Trump already explained the plan to the Russians, as well as anything that binds Trump to making a show of supporting Ukraine and Europe.
The sanctions actually help Russian profits.
Russian is a hidden partner is Trump's success.
