In my job we are required to ask everybody who applies renews or changes their address if they would like to register to vote and then if they say yes we give them the voter registration form. We then send that voter registration form to the Secretary of State who's responsibility it is to ensure that they have the legal right to vote. Supposedly if they do not they won't be registered. Obviously I'm not looking over their shoulder confirming that it's getting done. I am going to guess that they are under the same requirements. In fact the state has been / can be sued for not offering the opportunity to register to vote.
Anyone that doesn't know that they have the opportunity to register to vote (assuming they are legal citizens) shouldn't be voting! They have failed in their civic duties LOL!

As a poll worker here in NC I had a Hispanic voter come into vote at our polls last year who needed an interpreter. I was very suspect for sure.
However, we are not allowed as.poll workers to question anyone who comes into vote if they said they were a US citizen. I made extra sure I told them when they signed their ATV form to get a ballot that their signature attests they are a US citizen. And that it was a felony to lie on the form .
Only way they would be caught would be if someone who knew they weren’t a US citizen called into our county board of elections and let them know. Then our county board of Elections would do a check on that person and they would be turned in for a felony if found they were not a citizen.
In Oregon, you have to get a picture ID and a voter registration card in order to vote (when Oregon was wonderful). You can only vote in your zip code so people know you.

I was helping an older friend re-new their drivers license online, with a change of address, this friend can not vote, but it was such a convoluted thing to NOT register to vote on the dmv website, lots of going back, lots of boxes to tick just to make sure it DIDN'T register him to vote.
My question is, why is the Department of Motor Vehicles engaged in registering voters in the first place. That's the Board of Elections responsibility, not theirs.

My daughter went to DMV at 16 1/2 with a driving instructor to obtain her driving permit. A couple weeks later she received her voter registration card and sample ballet for the next general election in the mail. We asked her why and how she registered to vote. She remembered that while at DMV they asked her if she wanted to register to vote and she simply answered, yes. I should add that she was registered with democrat affiliation, despite not knowing what it even meant.
She could have easily cast a vote since no one checks for ID anyway. We had to explain to her that just because she had a voter registration card, that she still couldn't vote until she turned 18.
DMV has no business being engaged with elections/voter registration just like the BOE has no business registering cars and drivers.
Just further proof that our elections need to be protected. We need to demand ID checks for all persons casting a vote. I show my ID all the time for much less important things.

This was made by design. The DMV started registering people to vote knowing that non-citizens would be registered. That is why they started doing it.
