I literally just watched a video on X where a woman tried to pay for her nails with an EBT card and claimed she called and was told they accepted any form of payment and she wouldn't have "driven out all this way" to get her nails done if they weren't going to accept EBT for payment. The guy gave her a good dressing down that EBT is for FOOD that taxpayers paid for and he wasn't going to do something illegal over a set of nails. She was so confident she was in the right.

I remember in 1978-79, my father had to get free cheese and other commodities like butter and powdered milk so we could survive the Democrats' wrecking of the economy. You had to demonstrate that you met specific income-based eligibility criteria to receive government surplus cheese through food assistance programs. If it was good enough for my father to have to prove we needed free food. It is good enough today to prove you need free food.
We had powdered milk too, my brother still bitches about how awful it was.😂 Funny, I really don't recall but maybe he drank more milk than I did.
Man, I must have been really abused. We drank powdered milk - the kind that came in 50-lb. bags - and my dad was an engineer so it wasn't an economic issue. For us it was a choice. I sure hated it. To this day I hate even putting it in a recipe!

SNAP needs to be revamped. Just pay for basic subsistence and not junk food. Reduce amounts paid out. Require work hours for entitlement on monthly basis.

Agreed. And all these systems (driver's license, SNAP, medicaid, etc.) should talk to each other. You should be able to go to one screen and see every place that a citizen interacts with government. This would help prevent fraud and illegal double dipping.

Require applicants to complete a nutrition/cooking class to help them learn to conserve resources and (probably) stay healthier. Soup is good food.

We need the certifiers to actually certify under penalty of 2 years in prison if they falsify people for benefits. The government has a list of dead people collecting and if they get recertified, then the government should have in their database who recertified them. Those that recertify individuals would have a unique password to certify people. Require 2 forms of ID, copy them and put them in the database. That will be proof of documentation that will validate them or imprison them or imprison those that certify dead people.
Nothing will change because the agency is full of liberals who will give out payments anyway.

Yeah that's not going to happen. Literally the backlog of cases that exist for applicants who have applied just in the last couple months is absolutely out of control right now. If everyone's snap is shut down and they need to reapply the number of cases will be beyond what any state can handle. Additionally it would put everybody on a recertification schedule that would mean every 6 months or every year depending on your states recertification time frames, the amount of renewals would be astronomical. It truly isnt feasible. Every person receiving snap has to have an actual interview with an eligibility interviewer. There isnt enough eligibility interviewers to make that happen in any state.
Maybe that means there's too many SNAP recipients.
