Yes and Yes. They use the USPS for expensive deliveries. Thus pushing the USPS into a loss annually. The USPS should be given a stake in these two Titans that enrich themselves off the back of the USPS.
Before my retirement at the USPS almost 20 years ago I witnessed the rise of the Administrative class. Regional managers, assistants to vice presidents and so on and so forth. People scratching their way to the top back stabbing and instituting programs for extra monies that in no way improved service or working conditions. It was a free for all when it came to budgeting. It looked more like a shell game than honest budgeting. The Postal Service has lost first class mail and most second class mail due to the internet. Legal mail is no longer necessary because of secure online documents. Parcel delivery has been lost to UPS, FedEX and Amazon. Now they want green energy vehicles that will cost untold billions. I personally think the necessity of the Postal Service will go away completely in the next 5 to 10 years. I remember when I started there was zero barcoded mail and absolutely everything was manual. I worked with WW2 prisoners of war and a gaggle of veterans from various wars. That was in the late seventies.
In the past three months, twice I received someone else's mail, they have 'mis'-delivered one of my packages to someone else. I had a certified letter delivered & the device to sign didn't work properly and he attempted to explain how to work around it in whatever language that was coming out of his mouth.
Our old mailman (Tom) retired a couple years ago. Tom was great and we always gave him a Christmas card with some money. Never had any problems getting our mail.
About 5 years ago, someone backed into my mailbox and broke the metal stake that kept it perfectly upright. It slowly developed a slight tilt as the soft dirt around it gave way. Tom never complained nor said it was a problem.
The new mail lady started this year and suddenly we are getting mail from the neighbors and even houses several streets away but with the same house number.
This lady sees it as her duty to post warnings about how my mailbox was not at the proper height due to the tilt. I shimmed it straight upright with some rocks but her tugging on the door loosened up the soft soil again. The warnings turned into threats that our mail delivery would be stopped since she didn't have proper access to the box.
I responded with a sticky note asking "Will the accuracy of our mail delivery improve if I install a new mailbox post?".
I put a new post in and the delivery accuracy has since improved.
The new US Postmaster General, with a base salary of $346,780 and over $520,000 in total first-year compensation, is the highest-paid CEO in the agency's history. This is a significant increase from the previous Postmaster General's compensation, and it reflects the authority of the Postal Service's Board of Governors to set the salary at up to 20% higher than the Vice President's pay.
They also have shit hours. We're in a small town of 1300. Our one post office is the only one for 30 miles in any direction. The work from 9-4:30 with a 12-1 lunch. Makes it impossible to pick up packages before or after work. The post office is a ghost town, they might as well use hours that work for the town.
I have the USPS Informed Delivery so I can see what I am supposed to get in the mail every day and sometimes I don't get that mail for 2 or 3 days. I had a really nice mailman and my mail always came by at least 1PM, he got fed up with their BS and quit....now I get my mail no earlier than 5:30 and sometimes even later.
If my PO Box gets any higher, I'm done. But the reason I got a PO Box in the 1st place is because of the level of incompetence of drivers. They couldn't tell the difference between a C and an E on the address! Constantly getting mail from other streets. Over 10 years, the price has almost doubled for a PO Box.
Their whole system sucks. My wife gets checks in the mail for her business. They send a photograph of the check going out from the local PO and then…..nothing. Every frigging time!! We get the junk.
Yeah they get contract labor to do it. Surprisingly it’s a lot cheaper if you pay some dude to deliver stuff out of his Honda with low pay, no benefits etc.
Usps is still generally cheaper than fedex and ups because they’re private companies that can’t just run at a loss every year like usps
I did some very quick research and it appears that the USPS was founded in 1971, the same year the railroads lost control of passenger service with the government founding Amtrak. Previously, the post office was under control of the Presidency with Postmaster General being a cabinet level position for much of the 19th century and on into the 20th.
Quit subsidizing Amazon's deliveries.
and Walmart online

I have say I see mostly Amazon drivers delivering now. I don't get too many things from Amazon in the USPS anymore. Just an observation though.
Yeah the contracts vary widely depending on where you’re at. Some places Amazon delivers all their packages, in other places they deliver very little
USPS needs to be audited by DOGE.

You just described most governments and public services.
I'm assuming a portion of these price hikes will go directly to their main client.
The DNC....

I get someone else's mail at least once every two weeks. DEI mail people. I remember when you had one mailman for years. He knew you.

So he is 1/20th of the budget over run.
It’s not rocket science is it?

You’re lucky. In my town they are only open from 12:30pm to 4:30pm.
I do not believe the USPS can fire any employee except for theft. Once hired, you remain hired until you retire with a full pension.
That’s a popular myth. It’s a union job so it can be difficult to fire people but I’ve seen many fired for various reasons over the years
Wonder if Voter Fraud or Treason are fireable offenses?
I would dare to say so. Kek

We get our mail anytime between 9am-7:30pm.
It used to show up every day at 8am.
Well it does run in CPT.
Stop over time, no more Saturday delivery, my mail box is full of ads I never gave permission to be mail to me
Remember when the USPS bought something like 600k rounds of 9mm 20 years ago?
Justify the cost of a stamp or GTFO

How do we get people to STOP using the USPS?
Raise mailing costs, that's how. Every increase is met with people finding cheaper alternatives instead of using USPS mail.

Is the Postmaster General a trustee of United States Inc.? What bearing would that have on how this resolves? Just curious.
