From the article "It will be the first time a portion of borrowers’ paychecks has been at risk since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, when collection activity was halted."
So Trump isn't doing anything except rolling back the Covid economic policies.
This is part of a bigger plan to strengthen the work force. The U S needs a rebirth of responsibility citizens... so bring a little pain to create the hard times that grow character. I'm glad the Trump administration is insisting on this and not a commie installed president.
Aren't we trying to Liberate Humanity from Tyranny. Over priced education that did more to Propagandize you ,than educate you. Then there are no jobs because all the Indians are getting them. The People with Student debt should do a Class Action law suit and get a reduction in the outstanding debt. Make a payment schedule, IF you default, you go back to the original amount.
I don’t think the timing is right, especially if you’re going to do tarrif refunds, dividends, etc….wait until it’s processed and then you will have given every single opportunity for people who ARE trying to pay back their loans or at least start into it…..
We aren’t owed anything by the govt, but with the level of fraud, SNAP scams, ebt, etc…..if you think this is great timing to start hammering default borrowers then you’re again clueless. We are at a pivotal time where we want to further the movement and garner more support; waiting a bit until we get some of OUR money back makes sense.
If you don’t think that the federal school system, especially colleges is predatory and absolutely tricking people then you are clueless.
The loans should be paid back; in fact they should allow tax money to go into it at a certain rate….so waiting until a few months after a dividend will truly seperate the wheat from the chaff….those who really plan to try will pay it off as a first priority.
I have been wondering if this is the next step in the waste fraud and abuse... 1) Why should students pay so much when tax payers already support these institutions? 2) What did students really get? Reports are heavy about how Harvard has almost no conservative students/ faculty. 3) How about the required brainwashing classes - DEI, Gender BS, and racism against whites. 4) Why did colleges push so many degrees that have no economic relevance? IMO - this is still part of the Awakening.
I notice that the people who are making initial comments on this post opposing this position are people who have been here for years and have made little contributions.
I think this is a situation where ALL parties involved deserve blame. Kids with zero financial knowledge were given "free money", colleges gave them a worthless education, and the government allowed the money to flow. How is a positive outcome expected out of all that?
FWIW, it starts with the fact that kids are given ZERO financial education in school aside from balancing a checkbook. Probably because if they were they'd never go to college...
So Mr. You Borrow Money, You Pay It Back, AKA BerlinWallCrosser, how do you feel about the national debt?!
😂😂
I'll be curious to see how this plays out, our learned finances is a joke, many students go into loans w/o fully understanding what they're getting into and then get hyped into nonsense degrees like gender studies and other garbage.
I get if you borrow money it should be paid back and teaching that lesson, but many yutes in our country don't have a good foundation to learn that lesson. I think in many it will just breed contempt for Trump.
The head scratcher is how some of these students go 100K in debt but get a job out of college making only 30K / YR.
This means they are a slave to society until the student loan is paid off. They default on a loan it will follow them from job to job in the form of garnished wages until the student loan is paid off. Tax refunds will be confiscated when taxes are filed.
This means no chance at buying and owning a house. This also means having a long-term roommate to help pay apartment rent or are forced to move back home with parents.
Um. My son owns a house. Has a family and is making student loan payments. He never stopped making payments. So does his wife. They were furious about the debt forgiveness programs. My husband also took out loans. He never stopped paying. He's also retired.
He started at $10 an hour, cleanup at construction site. He graduated college during Obama. There were no jobs. He voluntarily helped the carpenters and became one. He's bright and likes solving problems and he's now project manager of multi million dollar projects. My DIL has 2 degrees and worked while she earned them. They both paid on student loans when they were making pittances and living with 4 people in ratty, overprced places. Do your best at every job and you will move up.
I highly doubt Trump is going to just run with this blanket statement by one of his cabinet members, that they’re going to garnish and get all the federal money back…..I don’t think Trump has even spoken on it yet but he has tons of options to encourage people to pay it back AND not create any contempt

Exactly.
Colleges should eat that bullshit.
I feel like there is some reason we arent getting why he is doing this. Lets see what this declaration stirs up.
That I agree with as long as it doesn’t come out of my pocket.
But it will. They took the loan, they need to pay it.
Definitely, it should not.
You borrow money, you pay it back. Tell a bank that you’re going to stop making car payments and see what happens.
They are predatory lenders, so I don't think typical rules should apply.
The rules are in the contract that you sign for the loan.
So are mortgages.
People are desperate against a system where they are powerless.
Pedophiles convince kids sex is good for them and some consent, doesn't make it right.
We are ignorant children when it comes to financial lending.
While it may suck for these borrowers, "Ignorance of the law is no excuse."
This is part of a bigger plan to strengthen the work force. The U S needs a rebirth of responsibility citizens... so bring a little pain to create the hard times that grow character. I'm glad the Trump administration is insisting on this and not a commie installed president.
This is not to right direction.
These are the ones who make no effort to pay.
If they are unemployed they can get a deferment.
Does deferment halt the interest?
You borrow money, you pay it back. Tell the bank that you’re going to stop making car payments and see what happens.

It’s always been that way
There has to be some other way to defuse this C-19 Biden time bomb. It will hurt a lot of people who are just barely scraping by.
Good. You take a loan, you pay it back.
Yes. It is about time for this to happen. Next go after the crooks in our government, THANKS.
That’s quite unfortunate, hopefully more comes out about this because that would cause a lot of disillusioned supporters to jump ship lol
You borrow money, you pay it back. Tell the bank that you’re going to stop making car payments and see what happens.
or mortgage.
simple concept, this is bringing out the shills
I see that.

the people who took out MASSIVE loans to get WORTHLESS degrees, who do you think they voted for in 2024?
sorry if you got bamboozled by the jews but that's life!
That is the way it has always been before the democrats tried buying the youth vote they were losing.
This is bad

To teach people financial responsibility.
Color me crazy, but government has no business owning an individuals debt
I agree with that. However, all these students did borrow from the government off the backs of taxpayers.
Sure, but it USED to be private, meaning the government wasn't directly involved
So Mr. You Borrow Money, You Pay It Back, AKA BerlinWallCrosser, how do you feel about the national debt?!

Your son and his wife must have good jobs. Good for them. Others might not be as fortunate.

I approve of the way our current president is dealing with this subject.

Blue hairs will want to start a war over this.
The entitled student loans owners are furious!
