I understand this mentality. The family at the center of the story ate nothing but moldy yams for four straight months to survive. How does one find the perseverance to continue under those conditions?

They talk about counteracting the rural vote. So, the hardworking people in less populated areas are detrimental to the folks who live on top of one another where it takes 30 minutes to drive a few miles. Okay, gotcha.
