My understanding is that for the case to move forward from conference, they need 4 justices to agree to hear the case. My gut, based on recent history, is Alito and Thomas are definite yeas, Gorsuch is a likely yea, Brown, Kagan, and Sotomayor are definite nays, and Kavanaugh, Roberts, and Barrett are total wild cards. So, what happens on the 6th is anyone's guess.
I have a feeling though that if decide against hearing the case, we may actually be at the "military is the only way" portion of the program. Maybe we haven't run out of avenues, but it seems like every legal challenge regarding election fraud has been cast down. This argument put forth by the Brunsons is a novel approach, but I don't know how many other types of arguments can be put forth that are plausible. This seems like a Hail Mary, and if it doesn't go forward, then no other legal avenue is possible. I don't think I'm dooming, just wondering if shutting this door opens another.
Does that mean they meet on the 6th to decide whether or not they hear the case, or have they decided to hear the case and this is when proceedings start? Not a law-type person, so not sure what's involved with a conference.
The Brunson's website has a pretty comprehensive timeline of the cases, and looks like, if the website is accurate, that the Supremes vote first on whether the case that currently sits with them will be heard, and only 4 have to vote in favor. Certainly Thomas and Alito will vote yes, and I'm pretty confident Gorsuch will too. Question is, will Roberts, Kavanaugh, or Coney Barrett be brave enough to sign on?
I read somewhere on GAW that something was to be decided this Friday, but didn't know if it was the vote to hear the case or something else. I haven't located information about this yet, so if anyone has sauce I would be grateful.
On a separate note, saw a friend from PA just before the election. Been friends a long time but never talked politics. That night he saw a gift another friend had given me (a hat with something patriotic written on it), and his face lit up, and we spent a good bit of the evening about the issues in school and the corruption in politics. Always happy to find out someone you know gets it.
Brought up the China protests to the spouse.
"That won't last long," he said.
"There are over a billion people in China. If enough people are pissed off about the lockdowns, it may last longer than you think," I replied.
I know when he, and many others think of protests in China they think of Tianamin square and the lone man standing in front of the tank. Praying for those standing up to tyranny. May they not only prevail, but may they wake up others so they are empowered to do the same.
Was asked to do a survey about this movie. I specifically said that people were tired of having a gay agenda pushed on them, and that anything sexual, regardless of orientation, had no place in any family movie. Glad to see they listened to my input π.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I only had a Twitter account briefly for school-related stuff, and I found it to be irritating even when I wasn't awake. However, I may have to give it a try once more, especially with my frens rejoining.
Come sail away with me...you guys
