This acquisition through several front companies (thanks Bill and Hillary) gave China the ability to interrupt a critical piece in the supply chain for a high value weapon system. Much more simple to deny access to a key component (hidden indirect warfare which is passed off as international business and leaves people asleep) then to destroy a production facility (visible and direct warfare which wakes people up). Extending this approach to other areas, enemies of the United States would identify essential components in military and non-military systems and gain a measure of control or interference in US war-fighting, manufacturing, transport, power generation, computing, etc.

I have read comments in the community about Russian naval units being present in the Med, with US naval units being present in Red Sea.
