We mmust keep in mind that when we say "The French" we are talking about the leadership, NOT the citizens, who are fighting a battle against the leadership on several fronts: farmers, green vests, and the anti-migrationists. A real horror story in France is ongoing..
The cleanup I have been watching since 2011 has expanded to areas and rabbit holes that I have tried to keep up with-I saw with horror the ISIS era of terror and saw images I can't handle;
add to this a childhood in the 40s and 50s extolling the 2nd WW in film and imagination-it is hard to see the truth in just how futile war is-what men fought for, as always, was for each other.

Ah, the follies of youth who never lived the era, and assume itall just stories. The Greatest Generation fostered dedicated troops who lived throught the Depression and FDRs CCC and other programs forged a brotherhood that enlisted in the service TOGETHER as cohesive units that knew discipline in ranks. Born on the cusp VE Day and VJ Day-ended up growing up in Omaha in mid 50s to early 60s. Life was much simpler then-stayed out in the evening till the street lights came on; felt safe with my neighborhood friends-worried about the polio crises, lived in a broken family but had friends at school. I rode my Hopalong Cassidy fat tire bike everywhere and was pretty sqrauney.. Couldn't ride it now 😂 The worst day then was a beautiful day now...
Sometimes a film mirrors OUR situation totally -I AM saying great harm was done as in The Big Short. I point to the inhumanity of corporate cold blooded decisions. I was NOT affected by 2008, but WAS affected by the lockdowns of 2020-it destroyed my supplemental revenue steams.
