All I gotta say is NC can't stand any more damage. Our coast line was hit with a non named storm two weeks before Helene came into the Western part of our state and they are still trying to clean up from all the flooding there.
It offers cell phone service.
As a NC poll worker here I can't begin to tell you how many times we have to call into our County Election Board to assist with issues that come up during Election Day either to have them search out a voter whom we can't locate in their data base or to assist with other equipment issues. I can't imagine all the problems Western NC will have just to run their precincts in that situation. Much less find poll workers to run it!
In my county we have only 5 Election Board members, an Election Board Director and an Assistant Board Director. They have a few IT peeps who help fix equipment problems and and a few runners who bring last minute info on Election Day.
My county consists of 19 precincts and over 800 square miles. It takes a lot of effort for our County Board of Elections to be able to address each precinct on election night in a county of this size.
Multiply this info by what they have to do in Western NC where many towns or precincts are inaccessible to their own County Election Boards. It just boggles my mind.
My brother lives not far from Tampa in Hillsborough County. He only recently moved to Fl from Wisconsin.
According to him right now they are only evacuating people in his county who are designated A and B and anyone who lives in a trailer. So far he has not been designated to evacuate.
I suspect they will be evacuating different places in stages.
Having been a survivor of massive flooding here in NC after Hurricane Flo we weren't told to evacuate until it was too late. It flooded three days after the storm but there were so many trees down and flooding to the north of us that there was nowhere to go.

The NCSBE has now concluded their meeting this morning and adopted a resolution listing several measures they considered implementing in order to respond to the situation on the ground in Western NC to insure elections proceed with as little disruption as possible. I am hoping that document will be made public very, very soon.
One provision is that displaced persons can turn in their Absentee Ballot at any County BoE in the State, since some displaced persons are now in another county, in a shelter perhaps or living with relatives in another part of the State.
They are working directly with NC Emergency Management to arrange for temporary polling sites, likely using tents, StarLink and generators at locations most commonly used for Early Voting. They do expect Early Voting to commence on the 17th, 10 days from now. More to come.

All I know is the NCState Board of Elections has an online meeting tomorrow at 11 am to decide what to do with the affected counties.
It will be on Webex and the password is: NCSBE if you’re interested in listening in.
Ok the NC hills are alive with Trump supporters and they will do whatever they can to vote
We were knocked out of our own home during Hurricane Floin 2018 but even though we were renting an apartment two counties over we ended up driving back to our county seat to vote early.
I’m hoping these folks in our NC hills will be able to reach a place early or on Election Day like we did, also.
Tomorrow the NC state board of election is having an online meeting at 11 am to decide what to do about the voting situation in all these counties.
A couple of years ago I had a couple of Dems over for dinner. Normally I try not to talk politics, but when the wife said that Trump lies all the time I couldn’t resist asking her what specifically he lied about
She couldn’t come up with anything either.
How the heck did he even get a film of that?
