Go SOUTH towards Miami. It's out of the worst path. Find a 4th floor motel room and take food and water. Ride it out.
My daughter is evacuating from tampa.and is on i-75 in south georgia.and just stopped and got gas. It was side roads for a couple hours because 75 was fuckedup, just really packed. She did get two fuel cans before she left. In case she couldn't find any fuel.smart girl.
When did she leave? My daughter is heading same way in a few hours.
She left about 3p.m.. Eastern. Her first year at U.S.F. engineering. Very proud of her . She should be home in less than two hours. edit.. and i hope that your daughter stays safe -fren

One of my initial thoughts was this was designed to destrpy the disney campus before trump takes office, but also to help disney file a huuuge insurance claim since they are hemmoraging money. Maybe both .

No. Rita was the last storm before they implemented contraflow.
I swear they had contraflow in some parts. We were crawling inland from the coast and there was definitely contraflow in my town and on at least one major highway headed out. Can’t speak for any place outside of there as we stopped in Waco.

I can go >700 miles on a 16 gallon tank of fuel in my VW turbo diesel. 3 five gallon jerry cans extend that to ~1500 miles.
My best was a run down I-81 South on a damp winter day, she was getting 55 MPG from north of Harrisburg, PA to Roanoke, VA.

Yep, I have a lib i know out here in FL and worked in "HATE TO SAY IT, but it's gonna get worse with this Climate change more hurricanes might have to move" and I had to remind him a hurricane hasn't hit Tampa Bay in 120 years.

This happened to me. I moved to Florida {winter Park just outside Orlando} in 2003-4.
Hurricane Charlie was the first hurricane, i think In 50 years, that was to be a direct hit on Orlando.
I attempted to drive out, but it was too late. The gas was gone everywhere. Cars were coming back in telling us forget it, don't bother, just buckle down. I would recommend heading further south it might be your only chance.
My experience: 9 days no power or clean water. As you can imagine everyday was 98+degrees. I saw trees uprooted as I was standing next to them.
I slept in my f250 every night, because it has AC. And i plugged my phone in at a Wendy's every morning early because being in construction, I knew they had backup power and the exterior outlets would be on.
Long story short, we were spared the worst, but be prepared for the worst of humanity, because I began to see the cracks at about 5 days in.
People eyeing up my truck. Any food and water bottles .. all could disappear with the wrong look at someone. And that was just 5 days. By the last day, shut was getting fairly dangerous.
I found it funny, and infuriating that the "projects" about a quarter mile away got power after 6 days. I also understood why .
My brother lives not far from Tampa in Hillsborough County. He only recently moved to Fl from Wisconsin.
According to him right now they are only evacuating people in his county who are designated A and B and anyone who lives in a trailer. So far he has not been designated to evacuate.
I suspect they will be evacuating different places in stages.
Having been a survivor of massive flooding here in NC after Hurricane Flo we weren't told to evacuate until it was too late. It flooded three days after the storm but there were so many trees down and flooding to the north of us that there was nowhere to go.
Yes, Florida and Texas wand probably all states along the coast are in zones and told when each zone is to evacuate. I live in one of the last zones to evacuate in my area in Texas. Most of the time we don’t have to.
HI. Old Florida boy here. You need to tell your brother to be prepared not to have a roof, and for everything he owns to be wet. If it doesn't happen great. However, I've seen this before, and the only houses that still had roofs were Spanish tile roofs.

Fire spreads in a matter of minutes. If you get out ASAP, and quickly and calmly, everything is fine.
If you mass at the top of the stairs and wait for someone to give permission like they drill you to do, you might end up dead.

I think it's due to the tidal surge that hits land before the main storm. So I think they're trying to get everyone off the coast? Just my guess.
