10th mountain is Light Infantry. I was part of 10th during my service. We have vehicles as well but our mission obj is to do everything on foot. We hardly do any mounted operations. Hope this gives some insight to you guys.

Patch on the right arm is a deployment patch. It means those individuals have deployed with 1CD in the past. The left sleeve patch designates the current unit. NG picks up a lot of AD people after a contract or two and you still wear your AD awards and patches. So seeing a Cav deployment patch doesn’t really mean much. 1CD has been at Fort Hood since the 70s. We started over at Bliss but moved in 71.
